Get Bowled-Over By These Edible Bowls!

Yes, everyone knows and loves the bread bowl. The first time I encountered the bread bowl was when I had clam chowder at a pier in San Fransisco as a child. I was a fussy eater, so I blew everyone away when I ate all my soup just to get to the bread bowl. My fasinaction with edible containers still persists, especially when I'm feeling cheeky. Here are a few fun ideas to try out.
Apple Pie in an Apple
From Bit Rebels
Parmesan Frico Bowl
From Confessions of a Foodie Bride
Cantaloupe Bowl
From The Reluctant Entertainer
*This was actually the inspiration for the post because I ate this for dessert last night.
Taco Bowl
From What's Cooking America
Pumpkin Soup in a Pumpkin
From Sunset
Avocado Bowl
From Plate Online
**Note: Because I know there are many readers out there who just can't get past semantics; yes, I know cantaloupe, avocado, and pumpkin rind is not edible. Relax, it's just food!
Do you have any ideas for other edible bowls?

How about fruit salad in a carved out pineapple or watermelon? Or serving dip inside a halved bell pepper? I tried making Jell-O shots instead orange skins...but that didn't go over too well as it was too much work cleaning them out. Oh, I love the bread bowls in San Francisco. They are so yummy, especially when filled with seafood soup or a hearty stew of some sort.
I love Brocoli Cheese soup in bread bowls.. SOOOO GOOD! Do you know where to buy them at stores or something? Im sure I can just make my own out of sourdough bread, but I like already prepared stuff, haha :P
How could you forget edible cookie bowls? Edible bowls are always fun.
Panera has those bread bowls. I love them! It's making me hungry.
love, love, love edible bowls. neat ideas.
The chocolate bowl LOL. I don't think I've ever seen one. Sounds too decadent.
I love bread and taco shell bowls.
Yum...
no cookie bowl?!?!?!
My boyfriend uses a cantaloupe, but puts cottage cheese in it, instead, and eats it for breakfast.
And I must have the same obsession, because I would eat all of these in a heartbeat.
Very cool. I love San Fransisco clam chowder in the bread bowl from..argh I forgot the name..., and I was just there last summer!
@pnigophobicpk@xanga - That sounds delicious. Cheese and fruit go perfectly together.
I had a bread bowl of clam chowder at the pier in San Francisco too. It was tasty.
bacon bowl
Taco bowls <3
I made edible easter baskets out of bread a couple times. I actually basket weaved the dough. No, I don't recommend making them. The cuteness factor doesn't counter the three hour prep.
I really like the pumpkin one.
@babybug329@xanga - Have you tried limes? Me and my friends use frozen limes to put tequila shots in, its delicious
@cdedodgethis@xanga - Yes, I've tried, and they were more difficult to clean the membranes out of them then the oranges. But that was probably because I juiced them to make the jell-o...I was trying to get all gourmet on them LOL
@babybug329@xanga - Hahaha wow that's a lot of work, I've never tried making jello with real fruit
@cdedodgethis@xanga - Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. At least I was using an electric reamer to squeeze the juice. Fresh squeezed juice + unflavored gelatin + sugar + tequila. They were good, but maybe too much gelatin to liquid because they were a bit chewy.
I love making fruit salads in chocolate bowls =] fun and easy to make. Requires a lot of chocolate though.
I can vouch for the avocado bowl. My husband baked avocado halves with eggs in them for breakfast a few weeks ago, and WOW was it good!
It sounds delicious but it also sounds like hard work! -_- I might not have the willingness to cook it but I do have an eager willingness to eat it! :P
Oh man those look totally mouth-watering!
