  • Hot Milk Sponge Cake

This is a guest post from Kirbie's Cravings.

I don’t know why, but just the name hot milk made this cake sound so appealing to me. Images floated in my head of a simple, soft and delicious sponge cake.

I tried making a hot milk sponge cake once before. I was disappointed with the result. It looked so beautiful but it tasted dry and not at all like I imagined.

This recipe seemed promising so I tried again. I was a little sloppy making it so my cake didn’t bake up as pretty as I wanted, but it tasted as wonderful as I imagined. I won’t share how much of the cake I ate myself in one sitting. I’ll just let you know it was a lot… More Here...

  • Baked Plantains

This is a guest post from ChowTimes.

In this South Arm Seniors Kitchen, Colleen introduced yet another new ingredient for dessert.

The dessert is Baked Plantains. Plantains cannot be consumed raw. They are used for cooking. When buying plantains, look for those with darkened skin, which indicate that it's ripeness. Colleen had a hard time finding ripe plantain when she went grocery shopping for the kitchen. More Here...

  • Top 5 Fast Food Restaurants

A while back I wrote about my top “fast food” restaurants that were a smarter choice than McDonald's. I chose Five Guys Burgers and Fries, not because their burgers are healthy, but because they use better quality ingredients than Burger King. I also chose Panera Bread because they pride themselves on a wide variety of fast, healthy choices in addition to offering tasty pastries. For this post, all of that goes out the window and I am going to share with you my top 5 completely and totally unhealthy fast food restaurants picks. Sure, some of these places offer grilled chicken and salads, but when I do go, that is not what I get!

I cannot remember the last time I did dine at a fast food restaurant for unhealthy food, but these are the places I would go when I was less of a health nut. More Here...

  • Ecuadorian Vegetable Salad

This is a guest post from ChowTimes.

The second dish which Colleen prepared for the South Arm Seniors’ Kitchen is a simple and colorful salad.

  • Nutella Cupcakes with Homemade Nutella frosting

This is a guest post from Kirbie's Cravings.

My mom recently gave me a bottle of hazelnut creamer which I find every excuse to use. The other morning, while pouring some of the creamer into my coffee, I had a thought. What if I could make a Nutella-like frosting by making a chocolate ganache with hazelnut creamer instead of heavy cream?

I haven’t had much success frosting with regular Nutella because of the consistency. The closest I’ve done is a Nutella whipped cream frosting. It’s really good, but I loved the idea of a chocolate hazelnut ganache idea even better. More Here...

  • Who Enjoys Cleaning a Dirty Kitchen?

Do you hate walking into a messy kitchen? Can you stand a sink overflowing with dirty dishes, crumbs and random scraps of food scattered across the counters, and when you reach into the utensil drawer to grab a spoon for your cereal there’s none to be found? Eating cereal with a large metal ladle is as awkward as it sounds.

Everyone wants a clean kitchen, but the task of cleaning is easily categorized as a chore or burden. Every eater obsesses over glorious dinners, cooking elaborate meals, and being wooed by the food, but it seems like a fair amount of people fail to recognize the cleanup process.

Are there any others, like myself, who enjoy cleaning the kitchen?More Here...
