  • The Best Homemade Chili Recipe

My husband made this fantastic chili this past weekend for the Super Bowl. It took him about 2 hours, but was worth all of the time and effort put into it. It's an easy recipe and I highly recommend trying it out if you are interested in making chili. It was probably the best homemade chili I've ever had. Topped with cheddar cheese and sour cream just made it that much better! He found this recipe by searching for the best chili recipe ever. This was pretty good stuff. More Here...
  • Vive la Chandeleur!

I always look forward to February. Why? Because there's always La Chandeleur in the first week of Feb that makes the otherwise awfully cold month fun, yummy and warm. I still remember the good old student days when we used to have crêpes parties back in our rented apartment near campus. The French guys whipping up one crêpe after another in the kitchen, the crowd of international students drinking and chatting away in the living room, music blasting in the background.

This year, Seb and I decided to celebrate La Chandeleur at home! The tradition is for one to hold a writing coin in his/her hand, toss the crêpe in the air and if he/she catches the flying crêpe in the other pan, the family will enjoy prosperity the rest of the year. More Here...

  • The Story of the Calabrian Love Knot

This is a guest post from CakeSpy.

CakeSpy Note: I am reposting this recipe because it's featured on Serious Eats this week!

If there is one thing I love even more than a great baked good, it's a great story. And if it's a story about a baked good, well then, all the better.

So when I came across the following introduction preceding a recipe for Calabrian Love Knots in Judith M. Fertig's amazing tome (buy it--trust me--it's a great book!) All American Desserts More Here...

  • Cast Iron Skillet Grill Insert

One of these days I will learn not to put more on my life’s plate than what I can handle and by then I’ll have a nice wooden box padded with lovely pillow lining to rest in too. Since all plans to get a third January entry never materialized I managed to crawl over to the home PC to take on my latest product review; A cast iron skillet insert called: Pan Grill-It. • Blue Cheese Dressing

This is a guest post by For the Love of Cooking.

I was looking for a blue cheese dressing recipe and found one on Simply Recipes.  This dressing couldn’t be any easier to make.  I love how quick and simple it is and that it’s great served on a salad or as a dip for wings, meatballs, veggies, burgers, chips, onion rings, or fries.  I used lower fat mayo & sour cream but you can totally make it with full fat if you desire.  I think it’s important to make this dressing a few hours before you want to serve it so the flavors have time to mingle.More Here...
  • Bailey’s Irish Cream Mug Cake

This is a guest post by Kirbie's Cravings

I like desserts made with a little bit of alcohol, so it was only a matter of time before I graduated to making mug cakes with alcohol. First up, Bailey’s Irish Cream mug cake. Bailey’s is sweet on its own, so it was easy to add it as a variation to previous mug cakes I made without having to fiddle with the recipe too much. More Here...
  • Sugar: The World's Sweetest Toxin

According to scientists, sugar should be treated like a chemical toxin, and in turn, regulated. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco want there to be buying-age restrictions for purchasing sugar and a ban from schools (similar to regulations against alcohol and tobacco products).

What is the logic behind such a drastic proposal? According to their paper in the journal Nature, the researchers believe that sucrose (sugar) has done equal damage to society as alcohol and tobacco. And their views are backed up by the statistics of obesity and health problems relating to dietary intake.

They explain that from an evolutionary perspective, sugar was available in fruits and man had access for a few months. But now, sugar is readily available and we consume more than the recommended amount. In fact, Americans are estimated to consume 40 teaspoons of sugar a day!More Here...

  • Falafels - Chickpea Patty

This is a guest post by Teczcape

These falafels were not perfect. Size. Irregularity. The falafel (recipe is from Food Network) actually tasted absolutely delicious. But I guess the limitation of a good deep-fry failed me. I had to shallow fry in my mini 6-inch shallow cast iron skilletMore Here...

  • Bacon Milkshake

Franchise chain Jack In The Box is now featuring Bacon Milkshake on their menu. But if you expect to see it on their actual menu, think again! Word on the street is it's available in limited quantities at locations and is being treated as a "secret menu" item. How is bacon added to this shake? Allegedly, the shake includes bacon flavor syrup--not actual bacon.

Warning: This milkshake is not dieter friendly. A 16 oz shake contains  773 calories and 40 grams of fat.More Here...

  • Why Bananas are Good for You

The humble yellow dessert banana is super-food in disguise.  It is also one of the healthiest foods you can get your hands on, note the nutritional experts at Webctor.com.  Bananas release their energy from fructose, glucose and sucrose slowly to help you keep energetic longer.
