  • Do You Want Your Gym to Have a Bar?

Are you a health fanatic, but still like to go out for the occasional drink? I enjoy sports, food, and a good glass of wine or a nice beer. I love working up a sweat in the kitchen, on the playing field, and at the gym.

Even though exercising can be a rewarding private self-motivating experience, I also enjoy the social experience of a bar. I like going out for drinks to hang out with friends, catch up and talk, and I love being around lots of people having a good time. Does that make me partially a social drinker? Perhaps, yes. It never occurred to me that this social element of sharing conversation over drinks could be found at a gym.

According to the article, "Uplift Studios: Open-Bar Gym Gets You Boozed and Buff" in the Huffington Post, Uplift Studios which is located in Manhattan, is a gym that combines exercise and alcohol with their "Raise the Bar" classes. The gym has programs such as "Cardio and Cocktails" and "Workout and Wine." More Here...
  • The Panorama of My Silence-Heart Café Review

I purchased a Yelp deal for $10 worth of food for $5 to be used at The Panorama of My Silence-Heart Café in Jamaica, New York. The Manhattan-esque café caters to a vegetarian/vegan crowd, but meat lovers like me can also find comfort there with super strong and frothy lattes, homemade pastries, hearty wraps, and hand crafted salads and sandwiches. This cozy and quiet café offers a chill atmosphere, as if you were sitting in your own living room. I went there last Thursday for an early dinner and to cram in some study hours, knowing the café would be conducive to my needs.

I decided on the Cobb Salad (6.95) made with veggie ham and chicken, egg, parmesan cheese, tomatoes, croutons, walnuts, guacamole and greens served with a house balsamic dressing. It was incredibly light and flavorful, something I would not expect from a vegetarian salad. More Here...

  • French President Bans Cheese From Diet

    Sarkozy Visits a Cheese Factory

Could you ever ban cheese from your diet? I could never do such a thing. It would be a sad day if cheese was not found in my house.

According to the Huffington Post, the French President Sarkozy "has banned cheese from the menu at the Elysee Palace." Apparently he follows a strict diet and there is no room for cheese in his life. More Here...
  • Rich’s Light New York Cheesecake

This is a guest post from Feast On The Cheap.

Mary Anne here. Or should I say, Rich Doscher here! Rich is a registered dietitian at the hospital where I work. Together with a physical therapist, the three of us give seminars at local senior centers and churches, instructing folks on keeping one’s joints healthy. For such a young “kid,” Rich has an amazing grasp on eating well and can recite, without hesitation, the absolute best foods to eat if one is looking for an anti-inflammatory, joint-healthy menu. I have to say, the 70+ set love his portion of our seminars, but I think it might have something to do with his boyish good looks and that twinkling, twenty-something smile! Just sayin’, Rich… More Here...

  • Santouka: My favorite place for Ramen

Every once in a while, I'm always craving for ramen especially from Santouka which is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace (595 River Road Edgewater, NJ 07020).

Although I haven't tried a whole lot of restaurants that serve ramen, I must say Santouka is definitely one of my favorites. More Here...

This is a guest post by Chow Times.

Upon requests by some participants, Minoo prepared a menu of dips in the South Arm Community Kitchen. The recipes are just in time for the Easter celebration. We had a scrumptious pre-Easter meal of 2 types of dips, 2 types of homemade chips, a tuna salad and an apple cake. The first dip recipe is a Crab and Avocado Dip. This is great for entertaining and potluck. Minoo served this dip with some homemade baked tortilla chips and pita chips.More Here...

  • Bananaphobia and Other Food Phobias

A post from Delish.com lists 15 strange food phobias, one being bananas. It actually has a name: bananaphobia. I found this incredibly amusing because my boyfriend hates bananas. Just like the only food I hate is raw tomatoes, the only food he won’t touch is bananas. I don’t think he actually has a phobia of them, though. As a joke I sent him a link to the article.

People with bananaphobia and other related food phobias are known to have panic attacks when the food is present. More Here...

  • Parsley: A Hero Food

According to an article in the April issue of Bon Appétit magazine, parsley is an herb forgotten by many, but incorporating it into your diet can give a boost to your health, along with invigorating your cooking. Chef Seamus Mullen of New York’s Tertulia uses it often in dishes for color. He also uses it for its anti-inflammatory properties to fight his rheumatoid arthritis, which he was diagnosed with in 2007. He found that parsley not only lent vibrancy to his cooking, but also improved his health. More Here...
