Li hing gummy bears are one of my favorite snacks.
What exactly are they? They're gummy bears covered in li hing powder! What's li hing powder and what does it do to spice up regular ol' gummy bears?
Li hing is usually found in conjunction with mui (plum) as li hing mui, or salty dried plum. It adds a salty, sour, and sweet flavor and isn't limited to plums - in fact you can add li hing to most dried fruit and it'll be delicious. I've seen li hing pineapple, mango, apples, pears, and more.
You can buy li hing powder to add it to anything you want or you can buy snacks that are already li hing-ized, like my gummy bears. The best place to find them is an Asian market, like
Mitsuwa or
Marukai.
Have you heard of li hing before? What's your favorite li hing snack?

I don't think I've heard of li hing, not sure if I'd want to try it.
I've tried the dried plum ones, and although it definitely is an interesting taste, it's not my cup of tea.
My brother is OBSESSED with li hing mango. Like, obsessed. I like it but I'm not going to sit and eat a Costco sized jar of it (like he will) lol
Nope I haven't heard of it before, but the candy does look yum!
If you put it on fresh pineapple, it does wonders to the acidity of it.
I love this stuff! My favorite way to eat it is li hing mui. I could probably eat a whole pack in one sitting. My tongue always hurts after though. Haha.
I LOVE LI HING MUI!! Perfect for a sore throat. I also love it as a chaser! Haha! I love Li Hing covered kakimochi, mango, sour snacks, in certain wines, in some juices, over shave ice, and fruits. I crave it. Growing up in Honolulu, it's every where. I love going to the "Crack Seed Store" where a variety of li hing mui is sold and they are all so plump! They have the best!
we have something like li-hing powder here where i live. they are sold in small containers and available in many supermarkets. usually served together with fresh fruits. and yes, i love them. they make a world of difference to the flavor of the fruit that you add the powder with. we call it fruit salt. which contains sour plum and salt and sugar. addictive, i tell you.
That sounds delicious.
