  • My Most Memorable Food Moments Of 2012

I had a great year food-wise. I tried to be more adventurous and expand my appetite, so I brought a Bear Grylls kind of attitude into 2012. Only I didn't eat any raw zebra. I think I was pretty successful in my attempt at trying new foods. Here's some of my favorite moments from this year.

    1. Melon soda

I went to Japan in June with two friends and ate a lot more Japanese junk food than I thought I would. Vending machines are everywhere and one of my favorite drinks to grab was melon soda. The sweetest soda I've ever had, a little cantaloupe-y, and I miss it.

    2. PB&J sundae

At the California State Fair this past July, I decided to try the peanut butter and jelly sundae. You might think the textures would be weird, but it actually blended together well! And it was really good. The peanut butter was warm and gooey. I got strawberry jam. Definitely recommend it.

    3. Chicken feet

A friend of mine took me to dim sum in the bay area and decided I needed to try these. They weren't bad, but they didn't have much flavor to me (maybe I should get spicy ones next time). The skin is pretty thin so there's not much to them.

    4. Ramen with soymilk

At Shoki Ramen House in downtown Sacramento, they have a really impressive ramen menu. I never thought soymilk and ramen could go together, but it did. It turns it into a thicker broth, but it tasted slightly nuttier. Would have again.

    5. Cucumber jalapeno cocktail

A trip to New York had me visiting friends in Brooklyn. They took me to a Mexican restaurant (which I'm sad to say I do not remember the name of) where I had the most deliciously spicy and refreshing alcoholic beverage. The cayenne pepper around the rim and jalapenos floating in the drink gave it a serious kick, so you definitely have to like spicy to down one.

What are some of your favorite food moments from 2012?
