  • Easy Peasy Oreo Cream Pie

The Oreo has always been my favorite cookie.

And (not) surprisingly enough, I also really love Oreo cheesecake, cookies and cream ice cream, etc.  But how do you satisfy an Oreo craving when you're a poor college student?

A few years ago, instead of going out and buying a pack of Oreos, I found this recipe for an Oreo cream pie.  It's perfect for the Oreo lover, especially because you'll likely have left over cookies.  Plus it's incredibly simple to make!

    Ingredients:
    • 39 Oreo Cookies, divided
    • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
    • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) Philly Cream Cheese, softened
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 2 cups sweetened whipped cream

    Directions:

    • Crush 26 of the cookies.  I actually used a food processor for this step, it speeds up the...well, process.
    • If you've used a food processor, remove crushed cookies.  Mix crushed cookies with butter until well blended.
    • Press firmly onto bottom and up side of 9-inch pie plate. Refrigerate while preparing filling.
    • Take 9 of the remaining cookies; set aside.
    • Beat cream cheese and sugar in medium bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.
    • Add chopped cookies and whipped topping; stir gently until well blended.
    • Spoon into prepared crust and refrigerate at least 2 hours or until firm.
    • Halve remaining 4 cookies; stand on cut edges around center of pie.

This pie is the definition of no-bake perfection.  You can find the original recipe at The Purple Foodie.

What's your favorite way to use Oreos?

I mostly like to just dunk Oreos in milk for a snack, but I've had lots of success using them in cheesecakes, but the kind you do have to bake.  Cheesecakes are simple to make, but easy to mess up.  There are just a few ingredients, so you should be sure to use quality ones, and take care to not mix too much/vigorously or overcook it.  I've seen many food bloggers add crushed Oreos to various recipes, but I haven't tried very many, except for "slutty brownies" and deep fried Oreos.

I take an Oreo out of the package, and bring it to my mouth.  I take a bite, chew, swallow, and repeat until I have finished with the cookie.

I like Oreo ice cream or cupcakes

@babybug329@xanga - I'd love to see an oreo cheesecake post!  I've tried cheesecake twice... and ended up basically with burnt pudding.  Write it up!

@Endrath@xanga - I think I will.  It might be an excuse to make cheesecake, so I can take some pics.  But, for now, I can offer some pointers.

    * Make sure your eggs and cream cheese are room temperature before beginning.
    * Mix the filling only until it is just combined--beating in too much air can cause the cake to crack.
    * I usually bake my cheesecake at 325°F.  Mostly regular cakes are baked at 350°F, but cheesecake is better baked at a lower temperature.
    * I usually a water bath.  The hot water surrounding the cheesecake pan helps keep the heat constant to cook the cheesecake evenly.  If I make the cheesecake in a premade cookie crust, I've baked it without the water bath with good results.
    * The rack in which the cake is to be cooked on, should be the center-most setting.
    * Make sure your oven preheats for a sufficient amount of time.  Use an oven temperature to check for accuracy.
    * Cook just until the center is set.  It will still wiggle a bit if you give the cheesecake pan a gentle shake, kind of like jello that firmed up.
I hope this helps, and I hope you'll give cheesecake another spin!  I mostly use Philadelphia's 3 Step Cheesecake recipe, but often I will make the crust from crushed graham crackers, or substitute Biscoff cookies, and of course, the Oreo variation.

Probably the basic traditional way of having them with milk or coffee.

@babybug329@xanga - thank you for these tips!
