Inhale the scents drifting down memory lane. What do they smell like? Warm cake? Sweet frosting? Crunchy waffle cones?
As I was thinking about making
push up cake pops, a memory came to my mind. One of me sitting in a classroom at a desk, peeling the top off of an ice cream cone to get at the cupcake inside. I remember the birthday boy or girl (with help from their parent) passing out these masterpieces of confection. To me, birthday days were the best days. It meant less class time, more delicious treats. Like homemade ice cream cone cupcakes.
I haven’t had one since probably the seventh grade. I asked my 12 year old sister if anyone brings them to class for their birthdays. She said no. Which is kind of sad. I guess they’re just not as popular anymore. They were super popular when I was in elementary and middle school. I pretty much forgot all about them because high school wasn’t really the place for ice cream cone cupcakes with sprinkles on top. But remembering them gives me a good dose of childhood nostalgia.
It’s nice to have a happy memory connected to a special kind of day, like a birthday, in your childhood. I made a little gallery of ice cream cone cupcakes to drool over if you want to nostalgia with me.
Do you have any childhood memories of food at school?

Nowadays children rarely get to enjoy special birthday treats at school without the parents consulting a "safe treat" list. When I was growing up, it was either cupcakes or sheet cake and punch at school for my birthday. A friend's mom once made the ice cream cone cakes for her birthday. They were fun.
I agree with babybug329 - now you have to consult a safe list for school snacks. Some schools won't even allow cupcakes on birthdays since they aren't considered healthy.
But looking at these cupcake cones reminds me of the year I made them for my daughter. They were easy to make, easy to transport, and a huge hit with the class. This is the one treat that she still talks about and she is 20 now. I might have to make some again and sneak them into my classroom for a Christmas treat.
Oh my gosh, I used to LOVE these!!! Such good memories, I totally want to make them all over again now. Thanks for this awesome post :)
i NEVER had this growing up. and i wouldn't mind having these now.
