If you ever visit the "
Gourmet Ghetto" in Berkeley, California, make sure you visit
Love At First Bite. I really did fall in love the first time I took a bite of a matcha green tea cupcake. It was the thickest, creamiest frosting I've ever tasted.
The little bakery/cupcakery is squeezed into a corner on Walnut Street. They make all their baked goods from scratch. The milk, eggs, and butter come from local dairies. And they have over 10 different flavors of cupcakes! You can also buy cakes, cookies, pudding, and candies. But the cupcakes are what they're known for: the
hummingbird, a Southern cake with bananas, pineapple, and pecans, topped with cream cheese frosting. The
razzle dazzle, a cupcake made with Madagascar vanilla, frosted with raspberry buttercream (made with fresh raspberries of course).
Monkey love and red velvet are two of my other favorites, but the one I always get (in addition to the 5 other cupcakes because this is how badly I cannot resist them), is the
matcha green tea.
As you can see, only one green tea cupcake left. It's a popular flavor.
Every time I visit the bay area now, I make sure to schedule in a trip to this
cupcakery. It's not just for me that I go; I brought a box of leftover cupcakes home once, after spending a weekend visiting a friend. The cupcakes in that box did not last the night. My family now makes sure to tell me every time I go, "
Hey, bring back some of those cupcakes again." So of course, I
have to go.
A box to go. Does your family have any food favorites they request when you go on a trip?

This is my FAVORITE cupcake place in the SF Bay Area, even more so than the famous ones in SF such as Kara's. I use to live pretty close and would often walk there, but I've moved away and haven't found a replacement. My favorite flavor at Love at First Bite is the green tea. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Great post!
i think i would like this. as i like matcha flavor. i notice lemon kiss there on display. i would like that too. i happened to like all things citrus as well.
