Do you like pancakes? Looking for an unexpected place to eat them abroad?
If you're in Amsterdam, look no further. I stumbled across this place by the lucky recommendation from two girls who were staying in the same hostel as I was, and boy, did was it a good suggestion. Because, well, let's be real, you don't think of pancakes when you think of Amsterdam.
Regardless of why you're visiting, if you find yourself in need of something sweet, possibly savory, but all around delicious, be sure to stop by
The Pancake Bakery.
The Pancake Bakery specializes in its namesake, but these pancakes are a little different than the ones you find here in the US. Rather than being thick and fluffy, they're more like crepes, thin, but cooked with added extras. In my case, bacon and onion.
Oh, and did I mention the buckets of syrup? Yeah, you have a whole army of different types to choose from. Pancake heaven.
The Pancake Bakery is located at Prinsengracht 191, 1015 DS Amsterdam. You can visit their website
here.

Amsterdam Amsterdam Amsterdam ^.^
Best place to live. =d
"Pancakes" in Europe aren't like American pancakes. I personally LOVE the European crepe-style, and that's what I make at home (my family's Slovak). We make ours plain then we spread Nutella, jams, or cottage cheese on them and roll them up to eat. Or, I sometimes eat them like American pancakes, stacked and with syrup and butter. So, my favourite place to eat pancakes are in the comfort of my own kitchen!
American pancakes get too mushy haha, but the European ones don't :)
McDonalds... seriously, their pancakes (they call them 'hotcakes') are really good!
@Peridot21@xanga - Actually, I'm right there with you. There's something about McDonalds's breakfasts that I've always loved....
@Marica0701@xanga - Yeah! I was so surprised when I was abroad in England - they have a pancake day, and it was quite the culture shock when I learned that they weren't the US "pancakes." Oof, those sound tasty. I agree, pancakes are the best when you make them for yourself and for friends/family. :)
ah, amsterdam. did you get to try indonesian food? they have plenty of them there.
