  • For The Potato Lovers

I love potatoes, whether they're fried, baked, or mashed. Ever since I can remember, I've always had a taste for potatoes. So it is no surprise that when I found out about Pommes Frites -- a shop that specializes in authentic Belgian Fries -- I had to try it out!

What makes this place special is not only the fact that they serve freshly cut fries, they also offer over 25 different sauces to pair them with. Pommes Frites has flavors like smoked eggplant mayo, parmesan peppercorn, and pesto mayo, just to name a few. But don't worry, if these are a little too out of the ordinary for you, they also have ketchup and mustard.

If you make the trip there, it wouldn't hurt to be a little bit adventurous though! They give free samples before you make your purchase, just in case you're skeptical, overwhelmed, or can't make a decision (trust me, I had a hard time choosing myself).

When I went, I ended up going for the roasted garlic mayo and I'd definitely have it again. In fact, I think I prefer it over ketchup.

The fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's very obvious that they're made fresh! They're lightly salted too.

The servings are more than generous and they also come in these nifty paper cones.

So what sauce would you get? Would you go for the more exotic choices or the regular ones?

I think there has been an evolution in French fry sauce/dips for me.  When I was really young, I didn't like anything on my fries.  I just wanted them plain but hot and crisp on the outside.  Then I liked ketchup on them, but it had to be ketchup packets, applied in a thin line on EACH fry.  There was a time period in which I liked the nacho-cheese sauce kind of topping on steak cut fries.  Nowadays, I think garlic is a great addition to fries--from garlic mayonnaise similar to the one noted above, to minced garlic, parsley and butter tossed with hot cooked fries.  I still like the ketchup, and cheese sauce, but I also have taken a liking to chili sauce fries.

I guess you can say I like potatoes in pretty much all the different possible applications: mashed, baked, fried, hash browns, country potatoes, roasted.  They are all delicious.  I also like it in "baked potato soup."  But, I try not to eat potatoes all the time, as I can easily overdo on the potatoes.

Ahh, the french fry is easily the best snack on the planet. My best french fry was from a restaurant called "Aunt Fannie's" in Ocala, FL. Their fries were crisp and kind of crusty, but not too much so. Went great with ketchup and BBQ sauce. When I home cook my fries, I typically soak them in oregano, olive oil and i throw a splash of vinegar in the works.

@eugenia - no problem! I was born and raised in Ocala :). If you want a good Idea for the local cuisine, let me give you a quick rundown.
    1. Wolfy's is a must try, it's a diner for families, myself and my fiancé have been going there since before we can remember. Breakfast is to die for!
    2. Tas-T-O Donuts, old school donut shop that closes when they sell out of donuts. Best time to go during the week is 7 or 8ish even as late as 9.
    3. Honeysuckles is in six gun plaza and its a good place for a light brunch and if you end up going there for a meal, try the fish and chips or the cheese steak!

Hope you have fun visiting in Ocala. :)
