My Favorite Places to Eat in My Area
Editor's note: Several members of the IRLF Team recently got together and realized that each team member came from diverse ethnic backgrounds and had very different palates. We thought it would be fun to see what the other person's favorite places were where they lived.
So, we bring you the first post of our new "Favorite Places to Eat In My Area...." series. We'll be featuring each member of our team, and would love to feature our readers' days as well! Check out the bottom of the post for more details. Now on to Jessica's day...
I live in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn which is one of the best places for food and quick access to an array of restaurants and cuisines. My family and I moved here when I was three years old, so I've seen a lot of food places close down, open up, and made a huge impact in my neighborhood. Any way, here's a list of my favorite places for food.Quick Breakfast - Sun Mario Bakery
There's a lot of Chinese bakeries in my neighborhood, but the one I enjoy picking up a quick breakfast from the most is the bakery around the corner of my block known as Sun Mario Bakery. They have a vast amount of buns to choose from and cake. Usually on the weekend, if I'm tired of eating bread and oatmeal, I'm down for a bun for breakfast. It takes less than five minutes to walk over.
Lunch - Kowloon Cafe
Kowloon Cafe is a Hong Kong style cafe that reminds me a lot of the ones from the Chinese movies. Kowloon Cafe has amazing Chinese comfort food. My boyfriend and I love coming to Kowloon Cafe for a quick, but tasty lunch. They have Westernized Chinese dishes that no other restaurant has in the neighborhood. I love ordering the Baked Portuguese chicken over spaghetti!
I'm not sure what sauce or seasoning the chefs used, but there's a hint of coconut milk. I really enjoy this dish because it's absolute creamy goodness. I really like the tenderness in the chicken.
Dinner on a budget - Fu Kee

Fu Kee is a highly busy Chinese restaurant that's been around for 3+ years in my neighborhood. Dinner here can be expensive or inexpensive depending on what you order. Most of the time my family and I pick up roasted meats from Fu Kee for dinner or individual rice/noodle dishes.
Dinner for a special occasion - Happy Seafood Restaurant

Happy Seafood Restaurant is a relatively new Chinese restaurant that my parents love, mostly because the food here is excellent, the service is well, and it's spacious. It's appropriate for any special occassion. My family and I have came here for my parent's 34th anniversary last year and my sister's birthday dinner. My parent's 35th anniversary is coming up, so we're more than likely going to celebrate it at Happy Seafood Restaurant again.
Pizza - L&B Spumoni Gardens

Bensohurst is one of the well-known neighborhoods that has amazing pizza. There's an abundance of restaurants and pizzeria in Bensonhurst. However, I feel the best pizza comes from L&B Spumoni Garden and a lot of people I know would concur too! They have best Sicilian pizza ever! It's authentic and flavorful. Their restaurant food is mediocre, but their pizza stands out the most!
Diner - Vegas Diner

Vegas Diner serves an important memory in my heart, because it was the restaurant that my boyfriend and I had our first official date at on Christmas Eve of 2011. We still come to Vegas Diner once in a while, because of the great food that is served up. It's one of the best diners I've been too. One of our favorite menu items is Sauteed Chicken with Franchese. It's amazing, moist, lemony, and buttery.
Coffee - Starbucks

There aren't really any coffee-specific shops in my neighborhood besides Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks and I despise Dunkin Donuts. So is it wrong for me to say my favorite coffee shop in my neighborhood is Starbucks.
Grocery - Waldbaum's
Okay, there's a lot of Chinese markets in my neighborhood, but none of them are my favorite. In Bensohurst, we don't have Trader Joe's or Whole Foods either. So again, is it wrong to say my favorite place for groceries is Waldbaum's?
Bubble Tea- Kung Fu Tea

Bubble Tea has became a drink that a lot of people are enjoying. I'm so glad a Kung Fu Tea just five blocks over from my house, because I absolutely love their bubble tea. The Kung Fu Tea near my house is a lot spacious. However I prefer not to hang out there since I've seen a lot of High School students love to hang there.

Waldbaums gets really high customer satisfaction ratings actually. Some neat places you've found
ugh. your grammar is terrible. i get excited to read posts and then end up getting annoyed by how you write.
@ smh - Thank you for your thoughts. If you get annoyed by the way I write, than you don't need to continue reading. In what sense, is my grammar bad? I'd love to know.
@goodeatings - You just used "than" instead of "then" in your comment. Also, you should lose the comma in "In what sense, is my grammar bad?".
@optimaloctopus@xanga - oh yeah, i remember her. her grammar *is* bad.. but i love the pictures and all the food sounds delicious!
@smh - I thought I was the only one who felt this way toward her posts! OP, I love the diverse array of foods and eateries you bring to light, but I just can't get past your grammar/writing style, which drastically affects the reader's experience. =/
bubble tea rules! you're never too old to have them.
