  • 5 Foods Everybody Likes But I Don't

Have you ever had an experience where you're eating out with family and friends and everyone is enjoying a certain food that you completely despise? You're not alone because this happens to me all the time. Sometimes my family or friends think I'm weird and have no palette for trying new things, which isn't true.

I love food, I really do, but there is just some food I find down right disgusting or just don't appeal to me. These are the top 5 foods that I find everybody likes, but me.

    1. I don't care if they are cooked or raw, I still don't like oysters. My parents and oldest sister love cooked oysters and can eat a ton of them. My boyfriend thinks I'm completely weird for not liking oysters, because he enjoys eating them raw.

It's weird because clams and mussels are from the same family as oysters and I love clams and mussels are okay, but no matter what I just don't like oysters. The taste of it always makes me want to throw up.

    2. Durian is a fruit that is essential to some cultures.  I love fruits, but Durian is one fruit that I hate with a passion. Why? Well the looks of it isn't appealing, because realistically it looks like a lethal. Secondly, the smell of it isn't pleasant at all. The smell of it is often compared to rotten eggs or sweaty socks. This is one fruit that needs an acquired taste.

    3. When we think of mustard, we often associate it as a condiment eaten with hot dogs. I never really liked the taste of mustard in anything from salads to sandwiches. It's just never appealed to me.

    4. Out of all burgers or sandwiches that McDonald's has, this is the one burger I absolutely despise and just the sight of it makes me squeamish. I have friends that enjoy the Filet-O-Fish, but man to me it's disgusting. I never tried it before, but after a former professor told me the truth behind this particular sandwich it just completely grossed me out.

    5. There are people that I know that prefer Dunkin Donuts coffee over Starbucks coffee just because it's less expensive and they feel the quality is good. I absolutely detest Dunkin Donuts coffee for the fact that it doesn't taste as rich or savory as Starbucks. It doesn't have that slight or roasty taste to it and their drinks tend to be overly sweet.

Are there any foods that you don't like, but everyone around you loves?

I agree with all 5 of those. I just detest coffee in general though.

  • xraindropsonroses@xanga
People usually like durian and oysters???? Hmm.... No one I knows likes either of those!!

I'm not a big fan of mustard either as well! Yuck!
  • coder88@xanga

haha, I like all five of the things that you don't. On the other hand, I detest bacon, and I know there are people who practically devote their lives to bacon. I just think it's greasy, stinky, and gross.

  • LadyGwenivere@xanga

yuck i dont like any of these.. but i detest starbucks as well. I do, however, LOVE Second Cup (I find their coffee better quality the most others.. and its Canadian)

From your list, I'm not a fan of oysters, durians or fish sandwich from McDs.  As for coffee, I usually brew my own, or drink at work, just with cream and sugar.  If I do get a specialty coffee drink, I am not that particular because I rarely go to get one.  Mustard, I didn't always like it, but now I appreciate it because it adds a little something special to the dishes I do cook/make with it.  They're limited applications, but that condiment has earned its spot in my kitchen.  Basic yellow mustard, I use it in my potato salad and macaroni and cheese.  I feel it makes all the difference between a potato salad that is good with one that is delicious.  On hot dogs/sandwiches, I like the spicy brown mustard.

Some things I don't like but friends like:* Lamb.  When I was a kid, I was pretty unwilling to come out of my box and try new things.  So, my mom decided she wanted to introduce us to lamb.  She cooked a dish that she normally made with beef and used lamb instead.  I knew right away that it wasn't beef when she was cooking it.  The smell, color and texture.  To this day, I still do not like lamb.* Melons, such as cantaloupe and honeydew.  I don't hate them, and occasionally I'd eat them but it is not something I'd crave.  I actually do kind of like them, if they are ripened properly.  I hate that they are used to fill up fruit cups to make 'em fuller, but they are never ripe.  They are bland and hard.  But sadly, when they are juicy and ripe, after I eat a couple bites my throat and lips itch.  I guess they have something I do not tolerate well.* McD's fries.  I used to work there so if I ever saw a fry, I'm sure to flip.  People say they're greatest fry ever, and I really don't see the appeal.  I much prefer a thick cut fry, or even wedges.
There are some other foods I am not a fan of, but these seem to be pretty popular among people I know.

I've only ever tried mustard from your list. The others, I've never heard people raving about anyway lol. My list:

-Honey mustard. I can't honestly think of a food that I could tolerate it with. Here in the south, everyone goes gaga over honey mustard and I just don't understand it.

-Chocolate milk. Everyone I know loves it. But for me, chocolate milk is just a nasty elementary school memory that I don't ever want to relive.

-Macaroons. Maybe I've just never had a 'good' one.

  • blowingmoney@xanga

i've never had coffee from there but i agree with everything else EXCEPT mustard. i like it sometimes. hm everyone seems to love chinese food but i don't really like any of it but i love rice. i wish i liked chinese food just because it's more food to eat but nope.

  • PhoenixResilience@xanga

Really? I always thought that Starbucks' coffee tasted basically like liquid candy; I prefer Dunkin Donuts mainly because I feel like their coffee actually TASTES like coffee, not as if pounds of sugar was dumped in my cup.

  • chanartlai@xanga

    what's wrong with the filet-o-fish :O ?

  • hushedjournal6@xanga

I've never heard of Durian before. . . What kind of fruit is that?? Where is it native to? O.o Odd looking, indeed!!

  • goodeatings

@Thatslifekid@xanga - Why do you detest coffee?

@xraindropsonroses@xanga - I have a few friends that can tolerate and eat durian, or actually enjoy it. It's scary.

@coder88@xanga - I'm not a huge fan of bacon either, it's so dangerous. I only eat it probably once in a blue moon.

@babybug329@xanga - I only like lamb chops. Interesting facts about the foods you eat/don't like.

    @spentandsickk@xanga - I've never had macaroons I think...

@blowingmoney@xanga - What is it about Chinese food that you don't like?

@PhoenixResilience@xanga - I love Starbucks, more so than Dunkin Donuts. The quality is better and has a slight bitterness to it which I love!

@chanartlai@xanga - Maybe I'll explain in another post.

@hushedjournal6@xanga - Really? You've never heard of durian before? It's well known in Asia. Here's more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian

  • loner_writer@xanga

Where does one get a durian? Pretty sure that's one thing Andrew Zimmern can't even stomach, if I recall.

  • VampireOfSeduction@xanga

I was under the impression most people aren't fans of those, except flavored coffee in general. I know mustard is a popular condiment but I've definitely gotten, "eewww" comments from eating it.

  • chakram54@xanga

I love mustard! That's definitely one condiment I like having around. I've never tried durian, but would love to one day.  I'm not a big coffee drinker.

  • eatdrinkandbemaryy@xanga
  • HerCarelessWhispers@xanga

Clams, oysters, and mussels...no. Just...no. Haha. The McDonald's fish fillet is gross in my opinion.
In my area, people use ranch dressing on -everything-. Chicken strips, pizza, even fruit! I only use ranch as a dip for raw vegetables.
    Coconuts and pineapple, brussel sprouts...ick.

  • wastedbeauti@xanga

Sushi, all other seafood, spicy food, mustard, & dunkin donuts coffee is terrible. You can't even order it like a normal coffee, they have all these special incorrect terms. I'm a barista/coffee snob & it's just plain awful. Then again, I also will only drink Starbucks if it is absolutely my only choice. Their roast always tastes like the shots ran too long, even when I see them come out in perfect time-- ew.

  • Broken_Black_Moon@xanga

Hmm. I love mustard, and I actually find excuses to eat it with more things. And Dunkin' is the only kind of coffee I'll drink (besides McDonald's/Burger King caramel frappes.)

My 5 would be the following:

    1. Steak/meat

I will eat things like hamburgers, meatballs, and tacos... but any slab of beef makes me want to puke just from the smell. Especially while it's cooking.

    2. Fish

Any kind. If it's not shrimp, or crab (inside of sushi), and it comes from the ocean... I will not even breathe in the fumes. It's so disgusting.

    3. Pork

Basically everything except bacon (burned bacon is awesome...) and real ham (not deli ham.... uck.) It just tastes like rubber to me.

    4. Milk

Unless it's in cereal, I won't touch it. Not flavored, not in oatmeal or cream of wheat either.

    5. Ricotta cheese

Everyone I know except me and my boyfriend love the stuff. It looks and feels gross, and it doesn't taste like anything in my opinion. Ick.

I almost never have a desire to eat fruit. It's weird because it's all I ate as a kid, but now I just can't stand the sweetness. Also, spaghetti and lasagna have never appealed to me. I'll eat it if someone has made it for me, but I wouldn't go out and buy it.

I love sushi and all kinds of seafood. Also anything I can put cream cheese on. And I could live off guacamole.
    Guess I like fat.

  • Trueinnerbeauty@lovelyish

@goodeatings - Even the idea of oysters, mussels, snails, calamari, shrimp etc makes me queasy! I may also be allergic to them though LOL

Durian is equally unappealing to me, though my mom loves itThe only mustard I can stand is called Sweet with Heat from Superstore, and I can only stand it on my pizzaI refuse to eat the Filet-O-Fish, or the McChicken.I never drink coffee it just tastes horrible to meI don't eat steak, or Avocados, spaghetti isn't appealing either, no lamb
  • T0m03@xanga

I don't like mustard... Or anything relating to mustard... Like if someone makes a potato salad with mustard... I won't eat it...

  • Endrath@xanga

Other than the part where non-starbucks coffees were "overly sweet"... =P
Good list!  Man, list posts are the best... I was never a mustard fan either, the smell of the stronger mustards will kill my appetite entirely.

The black mark on my palette is strangely... rice.  Don't like it.  Tried it white, sticky, fried, with eggs, in pudding... sorry, just don't like rice.

  • Beb3Lika@xanga

durian is manageable if eaten frozen or super cold, but agree with everything on this list.

i dislike mussel, liver, lamb, and cheese

  • chickensrule4ever@xanga

    1.  Mustard.  Course I'm allergic to so I just stay away from it.

    2.  Cider.  God I hate cider.  It is the one thing about fall that I dislike and people are constantly trying to give me a cup.  Yuk!

    3.  Well-cooked beef.  Steaks, hamburgers.  They were meant to be eaten medium rare.  A bit red, still juicy.  Why oh why do some people have to cook the crap out of them until they are dead.

  • xDark_horizonx@xanga

I totally agree on 3-5, still never had durian fresh, and I could eat the ocean out of oysters. nom nom nom yummy.
