5 Weird Foods I Like To Eat

Every culture or person knows some type of food that other people think it's just absurd or weird. I personally think people or cultures that eat goat brains, ants, bull penis, chicken gizzards, and etc are daring and not afraid to take risks.I know there are some foods that I think is disgusting and would never, ever develop the guts to try them out. As for my culture and me, there are some foods I like to eat that people would consider "weird".
1. I grew up eating this traditional dim sum dish known as chicken feet. It's definitely one of my favorite dim sum dishes. A friend of mine once asked me if I eat chicken feet and I said yes and they thought I was crazy. Apparently, this friend told me he does not eat any type of feet from animals because they walk with it. It makes sense, but then it doesn't.
Anyhow, this type of chicken feet is typically deep fried and steamed first to make them puffy before being stewed and simmered in a sauce flavored with black fermented beans, bean paste, and sugar. This is what gives the chicken feet that sweetness.

2. Okay, here's another type of feet I like to eat. I grew up eating the savory pig feet that my mom makes best. It's a braised pig feet with bean curd stick and a lotus root.
The sauce that is traditionally braised with this gastronomical creation is bean paste, white sugar, and brown sugar which is what gives this dish it's brown-like color.

3. Beef tripe is another dim sum favorite of mine! I love the texture of beef tripe because it's smooth and chewy. It is typically served with chili peppers and soy sauce.
Another way it's served is in a stew with daikon. Tripe is an edible part from the stomach of various farm animals.

4. I love shrimp paste especially on fried rice and pork. It definitely requires an acquired taste because it has a strong taste and smell to it. A lot of people detest the smell of it as I detest durian for it's smell and looks too.
Shrimp paste is made from fermented ground shrimp mixed with salt. I know my boyfriend can't stand the smell or taste of it, but I absolutely love it!

5. I never thought I would like chicken gizzards, because just the word "gizzard" doesn't sound too appealing. The only reason I started to like it was because of my first Korean Barbecue Experience (future post coming up). Gizzard is really an organ found in the digestive tract of some animals.
I was curious as to what chicken gizzard tasted like, so I opted to grill it when my boyfriend, best friend, and I were having Korean barbecue for dinner. My boyfriend and friend didn't enjoy the texture of the chicken gizzard, but I did. It's quite chewy, but I love that crunchiness.

I have had gizzards (fried) and tripe (in soup), but haven't tried the rest...yet.
I'm usually pretty open but... until I try these things, my tummy says eww... but I can't say shit until I try it!!
These are all pretty weird, but I would probably try a few of them if I had the opportunity. Great post, though!
I think the only thing I've had from your list is Shrimp Paste. My grandma loves chicken gizzards, but they just don't look appetizing to me. To be honest, I'm still iffy on the rest. I love your list though! ^.^!
Being of British decent I really like a proper breakfast with black pudding, and white pudding. Not really weird, but people don't eat it a lot now days.
Weird? I'd have to say heads. (Like chicken heads or fish heads or what have you.) They're considered a delicacy in Bangladeshi cuisine. Along with internal bits like the aforementioned chicken gizzard & brains.
Er... have you ever tried dried shrimp chutney?
Not weird, just growing up Asian haha.
Oh yeah, all these dishes look familiar to me so it is not weird in my opinion. They just may not be consumed frequently in all places. I hated when my grandma used to cook with shrimp paste, the smell would get all over the house even if the exhaust fan was on and all the windows were open. You can't forget about the fermented bean curd, either. I can't really say I eat anything most people would consider weird.
I've eaten cow brain (pretty fatty, but tasted good), and chicken diaphragm (hated it). Def can't knock anything before you try it yourself -- never know what you might end up actually liking!
Of everything of your list, I think I can only tolerate the shrimp paste and tripe. In my Filipino culture, I sometimes eat this soup dish called "papaitan" with white rice which contains short slices of tripe. Also, I would use shrimp paste as a side sauce to eat with "kare-kare", a beef stew with peanut sauce, some veggies such as eggplant, bok choy or spinach, and green beens, and tender beef or oxtail. Both are my favorite Filipino dishes, actually. However, my mom eats mangos with shrimp paste ("bagoong" in Filipino), and ahhhhh... I can't eat any kind of fruit with shrimp paste! xD lol
Never been a big fan of gizzards, but chicken liver is delicious! No, I take that back, at thanksgiving I will eat turkey gizzard if it's in gibblet gravy, so I'll totally eat bird organs if they're mushed up into gravy.
I've never been overly adventurous with meat and various animal parts. I did try croc chowder once and it was good.
I like snails covered in garlic, and frogs legs are good too. I also love pate, and a lot of people are really grossed out by that. Personally I don't really see the difference between eating a steak and eating feet or organs, they're all essentially the same thing.
I love kangaroo meat :) Not sure if that counts as weird haha.
But the wierdest food I've ever tried and liked was pickled cheese in Prague. Took a bit getting used to, but by the time I was done with my plate I really liked it! :)
I am Asian, grew up in Asia, and I even cringe when I read this...
cantonese food is best food (:
I love smoked liver sausage and that is DAMNED certain an acquired taste. My friend's mother adored head cheese...I thought that looked positively revolting.
I can't ever do tripe. The whole house smells like sh!t when you clean it prior to cooking. In America, tripe is the intestines and not the stomach of the cow/pig.
Wow I wasn't expecting that much weirdness when I saw that. my mom always ate pigs feet...I DONT do feet. I eat more weird combo type things...like cheese and jam anyone :P My roomates in asia once ate like LIVE moving squid. I think that was pretty weird
Balut (fertilized duck egg) and my mom makes an awesome beef's tongue. It tastes like beef, but the texture is softer.
Tripe has a weird texture. I gave chicken's heart a try and the texture is like liver, which makes my stomach turn. Blegh! My mom has also made chicken soup with feet. It freaks me out.
@SKITTLESrockk@xanga - bagoong pretty much is the sweet and sour combo. I had NO idea it was shrimp paste. My cousin gave it to me and said eat. lmaoo so good
ox tongue mmmm :)
@wolvenchic@xanga - Hms, would you ever give a shot to the weird foods listed in my post?
@Stephanie - Sounds great! What's the weirdest food you've ever eaten?
@ulvenNixie@xanga - I've only had chicken gizzard once and I liked it, but I still feel squeamish when I see it. I just really enjoy the texture of it especially when it's grilled.
@fadeing_hallucinations@xanga - What does the black and white pudding consist of?
@Lakakalo@xanga - Nope I haven't tried shrimp chutney. What is it exactly? Wow... fish and chicken heads sounds very...daring..
@iKEEPiTCLEAN@xanga - Actually, I am Chinese not Filipino.
@xa06@xanga - So true!
@babybug329@xanga - I agree the smell of shrimp paste is strong, but I actually like it once in a while.
@syedanoor@xanga - Wow kudos to you for trying those out. I don't think I can ever do that.
@SKITTLESrockk@xanga - Fruit with shrimp paste? Really? Wow, I don't think I could handle that.
@flawsnall@xanga - That doesn't sound weird at all. How does it taste?
@angelwingfive@xanga - Yeah there are certain parts of a bird I won't and couldn't eat.
@Digital_Angel21@xanga - Croc Chowder? Wow, how did it taste?
@Cestovatelka@xanga - Kangaroo meat? That's a new one...
@esfdyx@xanga - I agree!
@beesuze@xanga - I think it depends on how you cook the tripe. When it's served during Chinese dim sum, it smells hearty :)
@LillPill@xanga - I've had squid before and love it, but not when it's alive. There are people of other Asian cultures that eat live octopus. I could never,ever do that.
@lovesJoy@xanga - I may or may not have had duck egg before, not quite sure.
