Fast Food: What Not To Order
It's no secret that fast food in general is unhealthy and puts people at greater risk for obesity and type 2 diabetes. But there are some foods so treacherous that even the employees would tell you to stay away. Here are a few dishes that the insiders advise to stay away. These are direct quotes from Reddit users:

Chicken Nuggets: "When I worked at McDonald's, I accidentally left a whole bag of about 100 chicken nuggets out on a counter for way too long. They melted. Into a pool of liquid. I never understood why. But they were completely indiscernible as being the nuggets i once knew."

Wendy's Chili: "The meat comes from hamburger patties that sat on the grill too long to serve to customers. They take them and put them in a bin and then throw them in the fridge. When the chili is made they take it out, boil it, chop it up and dump them in the chili."
Vegetarians Beware: "I used to work at a restaurant where we deep-fried the Gardenburger patties in the same oil we deep-fried the bacon."
Grilled Chicken: One McDonald's employee confessed to slathering grilled chicken breasts with liquid margarine to keep it from sticking. An ex-Subway employee described the defrosting process they used, which involved soaking the chicken in hot water for hours, then squeezing the "chicken water" out at the end of the day.What do you think? Will you be avoiding these foods or avoiding fast food all together?

I know someone who used to work at Wendy's. She told me her co-workers would pee in the chili. Uhm gross.
@lovelybish@xanga - Ewww!
I think I might need to buy a farm and start growing my own produce and raising the animals.
When I go into a fast food place I take a look into the back of the restaurant to get an idea about the staff. If they seem slack or careless or too playful, etc - I leave.

What not to order? Mostly everything.
And this is why I avoid fast food... @_@
There are horror stories no matter where you eat. I used to work at famous Philly diner. They ordered mayo by the 5 gallon bucket-full. That bucket would sit on a table covered in ice until it was gone. Oh, and when the skin grew on it...we'd take a big spatula and just stir it up so no one would notice.
Did you want a ginger ale?? When a restaurant doesn't have ginger ale on tap, but says the bar has it...all they do is take Sprite and mix it with a dash of cola. And then we charge you more for it and you appreciate we found it for you and you tip us better.
Cops also get to eat for free when on duty at most restaurants. Why? Because no one will rob a restaurant with a cop car sitting in the lot.
I once worked at KFC. Leftover original chicken was recooked the next day (or later) and became 'extra crispy'. It still makes me ill when people tell me how much they love extra crispy KFC.
You have to consider that grocery stores and even high class restaurants can be equally unsanitary. Watching shows like Kitchen Nighmares and Kitchen Impossible show that even if a place looks nice, they can be terrible in the back. Working at a grocery store as a teen, I saw a lot that disgusted me. The male employees would pee into the air of the walk-in freezer to watch it frost on the walls. So, basically, there was pee-frost on everyone's ice cream and other frozen goods. Take it home, hold the carton with your hand, touch things in your kitchen with that hand... it's not even the type of thing you'd consider washing.
Since these places in the article are mostly franchises, you really have to judge the establishment by the local owner and manager, not the chain.
Chicken nuggets are by far the most disgusting food at McDonald's. I probably wouldn't have included grilled chicken though; the grilled chicken is supposed to be lightly buttered. Adds some flavor and keeps it from drying out. The spray bottles the margarine is kept in keep you from putting too much on and most workers are way too lazy to go to the effort of "slathering" the liquid margarine on. And it is liquid margarine. Better for you than real butter. I would have included those nasty McChickens which are basically the same as nuggets only as patties with a little more zest in the flavor.
This is a great post! I used to eat Chicken McNuggets, not as often now especially after the whole "pink paste" issues. I've actually never tried Wendy's chili and I probably ever won't and everything else, I hardly eat.
omg...this just totally ruined my love for fast food :(
won't stop me from eating them.
@goodeatings - The 'pink paste' was a hoax. As an ex-employee of mcdonalds, I can assue you that McDonalds nuggets are made with 100% chicken breast meat. At least, it is in the UK!
I don't eat fast food. Fast food is dirty "food".
I definitely lost my appetite.
Do all of these xanga sites just take their content off of reddit? I haven't seen many posts lately that I didn't see there first.
and the mayo is actually bird poop mixed with mustard!
@Krazy_monkey09@xanga - Chicken McNuggets are not chicken. They're man made.
I stopped eating fast food years ago. Too many days of feeling like shit
@lovelybish@xanga - That is disgusting. @wholiedtotheblind@xanga - and thats really gross as well. I now feel the need to sanitize everything in my freezer.
thanks for this...enlightening article.
@chickensrule4ever@xanga - I worked at KFC.....we never did that....thank god. Gross!
@TheNightOut@xanga - I'd be willing to bet the employee who said that was American... and I don't doubt the story one bit because the same happened when I was working at one and pretty much turned into ooze.
Great. Now I'm craving some chicken nuggets.
@breakingthepath@xanga - ...ew o_o; that's disgusting. i guess mcdonalds set higher standards here in the uk? haha
