Who Enjoys Cleaning a Dirty Kitchen?
Do you hate walking into a messy kitchen? Can you stand a sink overflowing with dirty dishes, crumbs and random scraps of food scattered across the counters, and when you reach into the utensil drawer to grab a spoon for your cereal there’s none to be found? Eating cereal with a large metal ladle is as awkward as it sounds.Everyone wants a clean kitchen, but the task of cleaning is easily categorized as a chore or burden. Every eater obsesses over glorious dinners, cooking elaborate meals, and being wooed by the food, but it seems like a fair amount of people fail to recognize the cleanup process.
Are there any others, like myself, who enjoy cleaning the kitchen?
Maybe I’m a bit crazy, but I believe a good cook knows how to clean too. A cook knows how to find a healthy balance between cooking and cleaning. The art of cooking and cleaning interests me.
There are some dishes that can’t possibly be cleaned while cooking. There are times when a kitchen full of dishes is unavoidable. Hence, the tendency of most eaters arises to give into their food comas, the exhaustion from eating, or simply pure laziness rather than attacking the sloppy kitchen.
Over the years it’s become a habit of mine to be a more efficient cleaner. I attempt to cook and clean. When done a meal I try and force myself to volunteer to clean the dishes and kitchen.
I now enjoy washing dishes, wiping the counter clean, and ensuring the floor is spotless. Kitchen cleaning hasn’t only evolved into a sense of pride, but it’s an easy after dinner exercise that helps me digest and unwind. If done with a partner, it can almost be a form of socializing similar to what cooking provides for individuals to talk.
I have been caught up in many deep and friendly conversations while scrubbing disgusting dishes as my dish dryer put them away.
Despite my enthusiasm and appreciation for kitchen cleaning I know very few people could care less about actually cleaning the kitchen. They want a clean kitchen, but they want someone else to do it. Perhaps, there might be others out there who share my sentiments towards cleaning the kitchen.
Do you enjoy kitchen cleaning?

Short answer: NO! To make the cleaning more manageable, I try to cook one-pot meals--even though they normally take more than one, fill a sink with hot soapy water to add dirty dishes to (so they never get crusty) and clean as you go. Not leaving a mess after each "cooking event" helps because cleaning a little at a time is more doable than having to wash nearly every dish and utensil all at once. Each night before bed, the sink must be free of dishes, counters wiped and floor swept. Trash all deposited in bin. The deep cleaning tasks, such as cleaning out the refrigerator or stove/oven, keeping cabinets free of expired food and dishes/kitchen wares tidy, I try to keep up and do it regularly, as well. Of course, it would be nice if someone else cleaned it, but quite honestly, I don't want others fussing in my kitchen but me so I do it hesitantly. Sometimes I use disposable goods, such as paper plates and plastic cups and forks--especially if we have a casual get-together with friends.
I'm usually pretty good at keeping the kitchen clean while I cook, but I don't know what I dislike doing more, folding laundry or cleaning the kitchen. Both things that absolutely have to be done though.
I really don't mind cleaning the kitchen. Whenever I'm really stressed, I find that washing dishes, wiping down the counters and appliances, cleaning the floor, rearranging cabinets, cleaning out the fridge/freezer, etc, are some of the most soothing and stress-relieving things I can do.
I love cleaning! I know it's weird and I've been told that it "sets women back 100 years" but I thoroughly enjoy cleaning. I too have been caught up in many deep conversations while washing dishes. Haha. Anyway though, I generally clean and wash I cook so by the time the meal is done, the only things that need to be washed will be the bowls/plating and eating utensils. I like cleaning, but I also like being efficient.
No, but it's good to know that there are people who do. =)
I try to do it as I go but no, I don't like it... but I totally get what you mean. When I'm done cleaning the kitchen (a deeper clean than daily) I feel a total sense of pride.
@aftershejumped@xanga - whoever told you it sets women back 100 years is an idiot - doing what you enjoy, regardless of gender, is what empowers people to be who they are. :)
Enjoy is a strong word, but cleaning provides an almost meditative like feeling. I would rather not do it because it takes so much time, but other than that I don't mind it that much. It feeds my OCD and I feel accomplished afterwards.
no i do not enjoy cleaning the kitchen, but let me tell you why. I have a family of five so most meals entail a good amount of pots and dishes. I do feel a sense of pride when I conquer the dirty kitchen, but when an hour later the sink is full again already I feel like breaking all the dishes. It is a never ending or winning battle, and sometimes it does defeat me. But I would rather be the only one to clean it and have to deal with the aggarvation of it, then let my husband do it and eat off semi-dirty plates. His clean and my clean just aren't the same.
I actually enjoy doing domestic stuff like that. It makes me happy to have a clean space.
I just hate doing the dishes. Absolutely hate it. I make my boyfriend do them. =X
For a period of time I lived in a house full of men and they apparently didn't comprehend the act of washing off a dish, or that you could easily slip a dish into the dishwasher, instead they'd leave food on plates and stick them in the sink. I was gone for a week and came back to moldy dishes piled high in the sink and on the counter,,,that was just effing gross. So no I definitely didn't enjoy cleaning the kitchen then because the smells that came from that kitchen plague my nose to this day. Otherwise yes I enjoy cleaning the kitchen, cleaning and doing domestic things has a calming factor for me plus I love having a clean home.
It's not something I love to do, but having a clean kitchen is worth the effort. One of the best things I learned in school is "mise en place"- everything in it's place. It's much more pleasant to cook when you've got everything prepped and ready to go before you start. That alone helps with the clean up process so much! (And it speeds the cooking.)
Luckily for me, my husband does most of the dishes, since I do all of the cooking.
no, I don't like it. Cleaning is gross, I hate all the licked spoons and forks and rests of food on the plate. I even hate putting things into the dishwasher. It's not a big deal either though. I like emptying the dishwasher, lol. I usually clean while I cook. But I hate when someone watches me or is around. I like to think of my own stuff while doing these monotonous chores.
Someone else's kitchen, no. My kitchen, yes. :) I like to try to keep it clean looking. I feel like that helps the food taste better, when you know it is prepared cleanly. You know? :) That and when I'm angry or upset, the kitchen is one of my favorite places to clean and to work it out. Lots of detail goes into my kitchen cleaning, from the dishes to the windows and the stoves. My sweetie doesn't like hand washed dishes... We may have to find a compromise though. I like to wash dishes when I need time to think, you know? :) So, yeah. Wish me luck. ;)
Which is why times I have had eating disorder. Not that it is solely blame on the fact the kitchen gets messy or is messy. But it is the fact sometimes I dread the idea of making a fancy dinner in the result of messy kitchen. For one thing, I don't like to cook. I rather do other things. Heck, I rather to do garbage than cleaning kitchen.
However, I have also made a habit since moving in this new apartment, to wash dishes as i used them. If I am done with the dishes, why leave it in the sink? Wash it right then and there. You won't have any work to do afterward, except maybe if you left dishes to dry. I do need to change the way I think when it comes with cooking and cleaning.Because I got five mouth to feed.I clean as I go, always and then I deep clean once a week. I never have a dish in my skin by the time I go to bed.. ever.
We don't just love to clean kitchens. We love to clean Everything, and not just Clean But Spotless.
