The family usually goes out for ice cream at this little shop in Queens.

My sister and I make my mother a lobster dinner every year for Mother's Day. I do the lobster, since my sister won't touch live lobsters, and she does the sides. Last year, however, we went out to a brunch buffet, because I graduated with my Master's degree the day before and we were several hours away from home.
