My Recent Food Obsessions
Lately, I've been finding myself craving obsessively over certain foods. The obsessions aren't as serious as my undeniable love for fried calamari though. I've found myself loving food that I didn't find appealing before or food that I've just instantly fell in love with!
Egg custard also known as dan tat is a Chinese custard tart pastry that's commonly found in Hong Kong and mainly Asian countries. I didn't always like egg custard, but now I love them so much. If you haven't had them, take a trip to Chinatown, NYC and try them out!
They are inexpensive in most Chinese/Asian bakeries and restaurants. I love egg custard because they're small, adorable, and just one of those traditional comfort foods in my culture. The crust of the egg custard has a light buttery taste to it, while the custard is lightly sweetened and just absolutely tasty.

Ramen is another comfort food in the Asian culture. The way people cook and serve ramen in this modern day is just very different and innovative. When I was growing up, I've never had authentic ramen.
As a kid that grew up in the 90's, I've just been so used to the dried block of instant noodles we boil in water with powdered soup broth. Now, ramen has become a noodle soup, cold noodle, and stir-fried noodles. I love ramen because it's a true comfort, tasty, hearty, and I sure do feel good afterward each encounter with ramen.

I first discovered peanut butter filled pretzels when I was wandering aimlessly at a Trader Joe's one summer afternoon with my best friend and boyfriend. I simply couldn't resist and bought a bag to try it out.
Now I am an individual that never had a liking for peanut butter since it always gets stuck. However, my feelings changes after I started developing a liking for
It's really quite tasty and I just bought a 24 oz jar of them from Duane Reade this past week and excited to open them to snack on soon.

I've never been much of a salad person until a few months ago. I always thought salads weren't filling, but gosh they are a great alternative if you're not up for a sandwich, pizza, or burger. I've been on a salad binge on and off especially at work. I like that salads are light, not overfilling and always filled with vibrant colors. I love the blends of different texture and tastes to a salad. A salad I recently enjoyed was the BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad from Panera Bread.
The portion was huge and there was a lot of colors and ingredients that went on. There was red, blue, white corn tortilla chips, lettuce, carrot, black beans, grilled chicken, barbecue ranch sauce, barbecue sauce, green beans, and cucumber. It was amazing that some of my co-workers have even tried it!

Takoyaki, an appetizer and snack that I'm truly and deeply in love with it next to fried calamari. It's so, so crispy on the outside and inside it's so smooth with a creamy texture to it and topped with takoyaki sauce and bonito flakes. Everything works well together and it's just such an amazing combination. Takoyaki sure gives me culinary orgasms.
Right now, these are my top five that I'm crazy about and enjoy eating. They all have unique characteristics and tastes to it. It's delectable and just worth the effort of trying.

It just passed, but for a couple weeks I was obsessed with Kim Chee, and the Japanese pickled radish (the yellow one). I ate it with/on the side of everything. So good. But it's passed. Maybe eating it everyday wasn't such a good idea. Now I'm left with half of a GINORMOUS jar of kim chee in the fridge. LoL.
I suppose I don't have an obsession, a desire to eat a certain food every day, all day, at the moment. But there are a few foods that I always, ALWAYS, desire to partake in. These include:
-Taiyaki (Japanese waffle like treats in the shape of fish that are traditionally filled with red bean paste)
-Papbingsu (Korean shaved ice: shaved ice topped with fruity syrup, evaporated milk, assorted fruits, red bean paste, and some kind of delicious kind of nutty flavored powder. Depending on where you get it, it may also be served/created with ice cream!)
-Hal Mul Soon dubu (Korean seafood tofu soup)
-Dried sweet potatoes
-Strawberries
-Sashimi (just about every type except any kind of tuna, I find the fatty texture of tuna...bleeeeeeeeeeeeehhhh)
-Seaweed (Japanese wakame salad, or the Korean side dish of large pieces/slices of seaweed)
-Snow Ice (a dessert I've had at Chinese dessert places which I can only describe as a very light and airy ice cream)
-Japanese Crepes (savory/dessert/snack fillings)
-Eggetts from Hong Kong. ONLY the ones from Hong Kong. I've had some back home, in San Francisco, and it was extremely disappointing.
-FRESH Japanese ramen. Little ramen houses that make their own ramen are the BEST!
-Steak. I LOVE a good sir loin steak cooked black and blue/extremely rare. OMG. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. A little salt and pepper, sear that sucker over a hot flame for a few seconds on each side. ;D****** HEAVEN! Well, it's also good with a bit of blue cheese melted on top, or crumbled on the side.
Damn, that's hella food. All Asian, except the steak. hahahaha. Hilarious.
If I had a day where I could eat all these foods from my favorite places (without weight gain, of course) it would be HEAVEN. I would be in HEAVEN. OMG. I'm drooling just thinking about all this yummy foods. ;D*********
@goodeatings - You speak Toisan? I understand Toisan! But I can't speak it. LoL. I speak Cantonese. Do you understand Cantonese? And you're from NY? I'm jealous! I want to move to NY! I'm visiting in early June for a couple days and am soooooo excited! Perhaps you could give me some amazing suggestions on where to check out for amazing food? I have no doubt that you know the best places to eat, given your incredible love for food. ;D
