  • Chocolate Covered Pretzels

This isn't a post about your ordinary yet delicious chocolate covered pretzels. Inspired by the "What Do You Think of Flavored Vodkas?" post I would like to share a little work experience with flavored vodkas. I'll tell you how to make a chocolate pretzel with flavored vodka. I do not really have a taste for hard alcohol, but these treats are delicious.

I prefer beer and wine. When at a bar I look at what they have on draft or in bottles. I'm not buying a mixed drink or shots. I don't enjoy hard alcohol and shots are too pricey. Despite my preferences, I suggest buying a chocolate covered pretzel once. You'll be surprised how similar this shot tastes to its actual namesake.

I worked as a barback in a popular bar in downtown Washington, DC. I don't know much about making drinks or mixology, but I picked up a few things here and there during the long shifts.

When working behind a bar and assisting the bartender, customers tend to buy shots for the bartender and even the barback. Other times, the bartender offers free shots to friendly customers. I worked along side a bartender who had a habit of making chocolate covered pretzels. Unlike the other bartenders who ignored the whipped flavored vodkas, he ran through countless bottles.

In order to make the interesting shot he would mix whipped vodka, either Pinnacle or Smirnoff, with hazelnut liqueur. You throw back the shot and follow it with a lick of salt on your hand. That's a chocolate covered pretzel at the bar. It's simple, tastes nothing like alcohol, and delicious.

Do you know alcoholic drinks or shots that are reminiscent of actual food?

When it comes to shots, I hate to admit but I can't do straight up shots of anything.  Straight up vodka, tequila or anything else would make me gag and be sick.  It has to be mixed with something.

A few years ago there was a bar I used to go to and they were featuring apple pie shots.  Those were pretty good.

I may have to try this recipe one day.  Sounds good.
