  • The Red Hook Lobster Pound in Washington, DC

Summer is coming. I can already picture the large red lobsters swimming around the water tanks in seafood restaurants and markets just waiting for me to eat them. I usually go all out for the twin tails, hopefully topped with crab imperial, or the whole lobster dinner with the funny looking bib.

Lately, I'm obsessed with lobster rolls. After reading Emma's "Lobster Roll Rumble,"  Lucky for me I don't need to run north to New York for Tasting Table's Lobster Roll Rumble this June. There's no need for me to wait for summer to roll around or count the days till June.

Instead I stalk a local lobster roll truck. I check my Twitter in the morning and then scramble to the Red Hook Lobster Pound Truck spot in Washington, DC.

The roll is a little pricey, but when isn't lobster. On the last lunch date with the lobster truck I emptied my wallet on a Maine Style lobster roll with their surprisingly amazing clam chowder.

I hate it when you order a crab cake or lobster roll and it's a struggle to taste or spot the seafood. I had no problem finding the lobster. The buttery long roll was pinned under hunks of lobster meat. I could still see the lobster claw meat that resembled it's former hard shell.

The New England style chowder made by heart stop when I found chunk after chunk of lobster meat hidden beneath the creamy broth. Lobster meat in clam chowder? What? Yes, it doesn't seem plausible, but it's delicious.

So far the Red Hook Lobster Pound truck in DC is my favorite lobster roll place.  The best part about this lobster lunch is that the two trucks are constantly moving around the DC metropolitan area (DC, VA, MD). I never have to travel far for my lobster fix. I read the @lobstertruckdc tweets to see if the truck sets up nearby.

Despite the lobster truck, I still might have to buy a ticket to that Lobster Roll Rumble in NYC.

Do you like lobster rolls? Where do you get your lobster fix?
