Home Remedy for Cough
This is a guest post from ChowTimes.Spring is a love and hate season for me. I love the warmer and longer day. I love to see buds coming out from the ground and flowers start to bloom. However, this is also the season of allergy. I’m allergic to pollen and my nose will stuffed up and runny at times and my throat will be agitated by clear mucus. When these symptoms hit me, I will have sleepless night due to the cough caused by agitated throat.
I remembered Lorna told me of a remedy for cough with orange. I looked up the remedy from the internet and gave it a try. After a few times, it does help to ease my cough. There is no harm trying this because it’s just orange and salt. Orange is rich in Vitamin C and salt has antiseptic value.
Ingredients
- 1 orange
- pinches of salt
Instructions
Slice the top of the orange. Sprinkle orange with salt.
Use a toothpick to secure the top of the orange back.
Bring water to a boil in a steamer. Steam orange for 10 minutes.
Let cool a bit. Use a sparing knife to loosen the pulp.
Eat the orange which is kind of sweet and salty with a hint of bitterness.

oh thanks. that's easy. worth to try. thanks again.
For sore throat, simply add honey to warm water. Good tip, though. Thanks!
Cool. I have terrible allergies.
That's brilliant! I don't do this for allergies, but spring time brings me soar throat so I marinate sliced lemons in honey to make syrup, which I drink with hot water
My family's home remedy for a cough/sore throat is equal amounts of honey, lemon juice, and bourbon. It really does soothe the throat, and I learned as I got older that if you take enough of it, you really don't care if you have a cough or not.
Sparing knife?
@purpleranger - my family has a similar remedy .. only its whiskey instead of bourbon =)
@LadyGwenivere@xanga - Remember, bourbon is just a specific type of whiskey. You could easily do the job with Glenfiddich as you could Jim Beam, but some people would be outraged that you would do that to a single malt Scotch.
