  • My Top 8 Green Foods

In spirit of St. Patrick’s Day I wanted to share with you some of my favorite green colored foods, which also happen to be foods on my long list of favorites (it is endless). Apparently St. Patrick’s Day is a major food holiday, which is news to me as of yesterday. All the more reason to celebrate! My Top 8 are not in any particular order, as I always find it difficult to rank foods. I just love them all so much!

1 Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

What’s not to love? The minty and creamy coolness is cut by dark chocolate chips, making my mouth very happy. One of my favorite activities as a kid was to eat a big bowl of this flavor ice cream while watching cartoons on the weekend.

    2. Spinach

That’s right kids! Popeye the Sailor Man says spinach will make you grow big muscles! Call me crazy, but I am in love with spinach. I eat it raw in salad, sauté it with some lemon and garlic, or throw it into an omelet.

    3. Avocado

Guacamole anyone? This power food has great health benefits, being a “healthy fat” and all, and is delicious tossed into a salad, on top of eggs with salsa, a side to a juicy steak, or even alone sprinkled with sea salt.

    4. Green Apple Jolly Ranchers

Even though it is probably everyone’s least favorite Jolly Rancher flavor, it is my favorite. Packing a few of these in my school bag gives me something to look forward to during the day… it is a little morsel of green happiness.

    5. Granny Smith Apples

Although not my favorite of the apple family, this variety packs a tart punch. Also, don’t forget that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. I enjoy cutting one of these up and spreading on some almond butter or sprinkling on cinnamon.

    6. Key Lime Pie

Okay, okay, so it’s not green. This IS my favorite pie. My goal is to eat it in Key West, Florida. Just like pistachio ice cream, key lime pie is only green if it is died green. At least its garnish, sliced key limes, are naturally green!

    7. Honeydew Melon

This is one of my favorite fruits. I love slicing up one to put in my cooler for a beach trip.

    8. Pistachios

This is another healthy choice. I typically do not like to work for my food, but I don’t mind cracking shells to uncover the nutty, salty goodness.

What is your favorite green food?
