Sunday Dinner at the Farm
It's tradition that every Sunday my mother's side of the family meets at my mammies house and she cooks us all Sunday dinner. My mammie is 50% Italian and 50% PA Dutch. She cooks mostly Dutch food, but feeds you like an Italian grandma. She makes an abundance of food and proclaims that everyone must "finish it up". I am pretty sure she gives my Fiance a food hangover every Sunday. She has been sick for quite some time, and we haven't had Sunday dinner since she has been in rest mode. She called last night to tell everyone that Sunday dinner was on for today!! Woo hoooo. I've really been missing her great homemade dishes, especially since I have not learned to cook like her yet.
Today's Menu was ham, green beans, brussel sprouts, rolls, mashed potatoes, apple sauce, and baked beans.
For desert we had browniespecan tassies, and mixed fruit.
My mammie makes the food and my mother has the job of cleaning it up and making the mashed potatoes. My sister and I get a pretty good deal because we are responsible for serving and preparing the drinks. The men make out best of all because they get to sit back and enjoy it. I know this sounds a little old school, but that's exactly what it is. The men are usually the ones out doing the labor and they get called in for a nice hot meal to enjoy.

These green beans are typically fresh. The job I had when I was younger was to sit at the table and "snip the ends" of the green beans. I still love doing this..

Sunday dinner is very important in my family and everyone usually shows up. It's a great break from work, college, and our busy lives to come together and enjoy each other.
Does anyone else have Sunday dinner, or another weekly tradition?

Looks like a great dinner. I remember snapping the green bean ends too. My family doesn't have any Sunday tradition, but it sounds like a great idea to start one.
When I go home, yes, we always have a roast on Sunday.
we have a simple sabbath dinner on fridays but it is a big to-do thought-wise. plus i am big on sunday suppers- when i lived near family i made sure we got together every weekend. now we live far from home but i still am instilling the idea in my children's minds.
