Nihon Kai Japanese Restaurant
I've been spending way too much money on food since I got my salary. Bad. Anyway, Luffy and I went to check out this Japanese restaurant on Old Klang Road recently.
Nihon Kai Japanese restaurant! Tucked in a hidden corner from the main road and close to the housing area is this little gem of a Japanese restaurant, which opens at 6 for dinner. Despite it's location, which is not in a commercial area, the place was packed with people by 6:15. We had until 7:30pm to finish eating because the next batch of customers would be coming in. The place is a little packed, but cozy. There are also private rooms with tatami.
I ordered Udon with fried tempura. Wasn't the best I had, but it was good.

It feels great to have hot Udon soup on a cold day to warm up your stomach.

Grilled unagi Kabayaki. The fat, juicy eel slices were humongous in size and grilled to perfection, basted in a sweet and savory teriyaki sauce. I'm not a fan of eel because it has this strong fishy smell to it and I hate getting little bones in my food, but this was just so good I couldn't stop. Luffy was surprised I actually ate half the plate.

The Grilled Beef set, which came with rice, Chawan mushi, Miso soup and an appetizer of cheesy macaroni, for some reason.

The grilled beef in a savory sauce is served with an Egg Benedict over salad. I liked the caramelized onions stir-fried together with the beef, it added a real crunchy texture which went very well with the melt-in-your mouth, tender beef.

Inari - tofu stuffed with rice. Amazing how something this simple could taste so awesome. The version at Nihon Kai has crunchy condiments mixed inside the fluffy vinegar infused rice.

A Japanese meal is never complete without sashimi. Thick, fresh slices of salmon dipped into soy sauce and wasabi is just bliss. You can practically feel it melting as you pop it in your mouth.

The entire meal came up to about RM120, which is about RM60 per person. I think it was worth it because the portions are very big and we left bursting with good Japanese food. The environment there might get a little crowded and noisy, but service is prompt and efficient. Definitely coming back to this place.

@sastsuki@xanga - Ringgit Malaysia. :D That's the currency we use in Malaysia. 1 US dollar = RM3 something, I think.
