  • La Crepe Fraiche

This is a guest post from Kirbie's Cravings.

La Crepe Fraiche is a small cafe offering everything from crepes, to cupcakes, to frozen yogurt.

After reading posts from CAB Cooks and Pink Candles of Ridgemont High, I’ve been wanting to check it out for myself.

The mish mash of offerings was a little confusing, but we decided to stick to the crepes.

Fraise Chantilly (Strawberry coulis, fresh strawberries and Chantilly)

This sounded really delicious. The strawberries were  sweetened and a lovely red. I wish the chantilly was presented better rather than just a blob on the plate. The crepe itself was a little too moist and soggy. I would have preferred it to be crispier.

Chorizo (Spicy Chorizo sausage, eggs, sauteed and green onions, cheese)

I enjoyed the spicy chorizo sausage but I wasn’t fond of the crepe texture.

I couldn’t resist getting a few cupcakes. I got a chocolate, almond, passion fruit, and hazelnut.

The buttercream frostings were very fresh and needed to be kept in the fridge or else they melt. I found the buttercreams to be light and tasty. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel the same about the cupcakes. All the cupcakes had the same white cake base. The cake base had an artificial taste I didn’t like. It also had texture that made it very hard to eat without a fork.

The inside of the cupcakes were too wet and crumbly. I know eating cupcakes with a fork has been popularized by Sprinkles and FN’s Cupcake Wars, but I think a cupcake should be able to be eaten without utensils.

Some of the cupcakes only had the flavor in the frosting, like the “chocolate” which was actually a white cupcake with chocolate buttercream. My favorite of the bunch was the passionfruit because there was passionfruit flavor in the cake batter and frosting.

We also ordered a fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade. FH was underwhelmed by this drink. He thought it tasted too watered down.

Overall, we were disappointed with our meal. Perhaps it was an off-experience as I’ve read good things from other blogs.
