The humble yellow dessert banana is super-food in disguise. It is also one of the healthiest foods you can get your hands on, note the nutritional experts at
Webctor.com. Bananas release their energy from fructose, glucose and sucrose slowly to help you keep energetic longer. Bananas are loaded with important nutrients, such as:
- Potassium
- Iron
- Protein
- Fiber
- Calcium
- Manganese
- Selenium
- Zinc
- Vitamin B6
But more and more research is showing that bananas and banana peels can also help heal certain medical conditions, such as warts, heartburn and for stress reduction.
WartsBanana peels aren’t just for comedy routines anymore. A piece of fresh yellow banana skin can help remove unsightly warts. Cut a small piece of fresh banana skin to fit over the wart. Place the soft inner flesh on the wart. Use surgical or first-aid tape to fix it to your skin. Change this skin every day until the wart is gone.
Reduce Chance of StrokesIn 2009, the prestigious “New England Journal of Medicine” published a report that eating bananas regularly can help people have a 40% less chance of getting a stroke than people who did not eat bananas at all. This is because bananas can help lower blood pressure. If your doctor says that you are risk for a stroke, you still need to diet and exercise. But substituting a sweet banana a day for a fat-laden snack can help make your diet easier to follow.
Heartburn and UlcersInstead of reaching for bottles of antacid, try a banana, which is a natural antacid. Bananas are an especially good choice for lactose-intolerant people who can’t drink a soothing glass of milk to help quench the burn. People with ulcers find that bananas are one food that reliably does not irritate their stomachs.
Morning Sickness PreventionMorning sickness is often caused by a sudden drop in blood sugar. Eating a banana in the morning can help keep blood sugar levels stable. It also does irritate the stomach like many other foods.
Nerve TonicStress contributes or strengthens many kinds of illnesses. Stress can also cause people to make poor food choices because they may feel comforted by a high-calorie treat. But Lots of sugar and fat can contribute to stress. Bananas contain tryptophan, which is a natural mood enhancer. Stressed people are better off snacking on bananas in order to keep them full, keep energy levels up and calm down. The potassium in bananas also helps maintain heart function so that the blood is able to deliver oxygen and energy to all parts of the body.
Hangover CureIf you have a hangover, the worst thing you can do is have a “little hair of the dog.” Try having a soothing, easy-to-digest milkshake made from a banana, milk or soymilk and a teaspoon of honey. This will also help calm nausea. Also check out these other hangover cures from

Bananas are tasty and filling, those are the main reasons I eat them. However, this weekend, I had some stomach trouble, which the doctor will normally suggest to eat a BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) diet until your stomach feels better, so that's another reason to eat bananas, they are easy to digest when you're not feeling well.
it also aids in the aftermath of eating something really spicy. too bad i'm allergic to bananas though
I love bananas! They really are a nutrient powerhouse. I especially enjoy adding them to my bowl of Kellogg's FiberPlus(R) cereal in the morning. Such a great addition to an tasty breakfast. -Kati Mora, MS, RD, Kellogg's FiberPlus(R) Wellness Advocate
It's too bad I hate bananas, or life would be a lot easier. But god do I hate bananas.
Awesome, banana's have always been in my top 5 favorite fruit list, guess this just proves I have good taste heh.
I hate being allergic to bananas. At least I can cook/mix them with other things.
go to 30bananasaday.com! :D i love fruit! bananas are awesome.
make sure you eat bananas when they are real ripe. no spots, not ready.
I love bananas. =]
I love bananas when they're JUST ripe.
It's torture eating it when the whole skin has already turned brown and it's in a state of mush. yechhhh
@fukuoka_stars@xanga - Hey then you can use them in banana bread. That's what I do.
Recycling has never tasted so good lol. :)
I love bananas!
A lot of things I didn't realize. Awesome. I love bananas!
because they look like penis. and i like penis o_0
so i eat a lot of them :)
@lorelei@xanga - My mom does, too... which doesn't explain at all how she had a daughter (raises hand) that is... well, bananas for bananas (sorry. I felt the need to go there).
They are also fairly high in fat, so eat in moderation. One at breakfast with a whole grain or fiber type cereal is plenty. I like them with a dish of hot oatmeal, with a little honey dripped on, or a few raisins...
I love them in smoothies :)
I love bananas too!! : ) It's sooo awesome to know that banana does indeed have so many benefits! But just wondering... which one is the author talking about? Ripe Banana or the 'raw' banana?
I love bananas, but they are expensive at my grocery store so I only by them when they are on sale.
I wish I liked them more... The flavor is good... the texture though... bleh. Anyways, I did find mini bananas, which were perfect for me because they are small enough that I can eat them without the texture getting to me :)
They also help with muscle cramps.
I used to wake up in pain at night from muscle cramps, and my doctor recommended eating a banana a day in the morning, and it's helped me tremendously.
Also, I like to cut them up and freeze them as a lower calorie alternative to ice cream at times~
I seriously have an addiction to bananas. I can't start my morning without one haha :)
im not a big fan of bananas D;
they're also great for making inappropriate penis-related jokes/gestures.
