  • My Go-To Breakfasts When I Have No Groceries!

We have no groceries in our house! Usually when this is the case, we can still scrounge stuff up for breakfast, but lately we haven't even been able to do that. I'm working on trying to eat better since I am now officially in training mode for a half marathon.

My go-to breakfasts, at least before work are either pretty healthy or very unhealthy when I have to get something on the go.

Since I've been making an effort to not eat like crap, I've been hitting up Jamba Juice for some of their steel-cut oatmeal. It's super close to my work and takes about 30 seconds to order and receive. It's good oatmeal too! I usually get the Apple Cinnamon flavor without brown sugar.

Although, it is a little pricey ($3) compared to homemade oatmeal, it's definitely worth it when I have absolutely nothing to eat in my house.

My unhealthy option is getting a breakfast sandwich from a local deli, which usually consists of 2 eggs, American cheese, and bacon or ham all on a roll. This deli makes really good sandwiches and I eat there somewhat frequently. They only take cash, which is kind of a blessing in disguise since I'm sure I would opt for the unhealthy breakfast sandwich a lot more if they took debit/credit cards.

My other healthy go-to option is simply a Chobani yogurt and a banana and you can usually find these in any Duane Reade. It's a pretty light breakfast and it doesn't always fill me up, but it gets me through a couple of hours and helps me start my day on a healthy note.

It's even better and more filling when you add a scoop of peanut butter!

What are your go-to breakfasts? Do you usually eat healthy or unhealthy breakfasts?

Honey Chobani and Oatmeal are the freakin' best. McDonald's surprisingly has delicious oatmeal though I don't trust that it tastes good all on it's natural self, but $1 coffee sucks me over there every time I run out of groceries (hey, I'm a starving artist or whatever it's called).

There's a lovely little cafe near my house that serves full plates of breakfast from $3-$8 including fruit salad, your choice of toast, and coffee. It's the best, especially since it's the kind of place you can only enjoy when you're not in a hurry to eat and run.

During the weekdays when I'm working, I usually grab some orange juice & one of those freezer biscuits that I think is about 250 calories? So that's not too bad. Or I'll just eat some cereal. But on weekends, when I usually have more time, my husband & I may drop by this diner. & It's not healthy. Hash browns, chicken friend steak with gravy... Ah, it's delicious! But we only go there about once a month. So it's okay, I'm allowed to cheat!

My healthy go-to is Eggo Whole Wheat Waffles or oatmeal. When I want to treat myself I'll make two eggs, toast, some kind of meat product, coffee, o.j., some fruits or veggies. Or pancakes or cinnamon buns. At least once a month I go out for breakfast/brunch and then all bets are off.

That looks good! I usually eat a bowl of Special K cereal, or if I'm running late ... I'll grab a Nature Valley granola bar lol.

I would rather eat a crappy breakfast. I figure if I'm going to eat something crappy that day, I'm going for breakfast. That way I at least have more time to work it off.

I usually just eat some cereal! I used to not be so big on breakfast because I'd have to get up really early for school and I just wasn't hungry. My breakfast during high school was often soft drinks just to wake me up. But if I can't find something to eat now, I will usually just wait and eat something a little more suited for lunch, like some soup or I will make a sandwich. I've gotten in the habit of buying some snack bars for school and my college has a small cafe with breakfast, although I don't eat there.

I normally eat like a cereal bar if I'm at home.  I used to be good by eating cereal and yogurt, but I haven't done that in a while.  If I have to be at work in the morning and I really want something, I'll go to Chik Fil A and get their spicy chicken biscuit with hashbrowns and a sweet tea.  So bad, but so good at the same time.
