Ben & Jerry's Flavor Review: Vanilla
You're probably wondering why I am writing a review about vanilla ice cream. Truth is, I've never had Ben & Jerry's vanilla ice cream because whenever I get a Ben & Jerry's I always get a wacky flavor, since that is what they are known for. I opened up my freezer the other night with a serious craving for ice cream and all that was in there was a pint of vanilla.
I was slightly shocked by the fact that I have never actually tasted vanilla ice cream from one of my favorite ice cream brands. Now, I'm sure most people would say "All vanilla ice creams taste the same," but in my opinion, they do not. With some much needed arm muscle, I scooped my ice cream into a bowl.
Before I took my first bite, I drizzled on some honey. My boyfriends family friend harvests his own honey and he said to try it over some vanilla ice cream, so that's what I did. Well that combo was super yummy but back to the ice cream.
The vanilla was so creamy and really flavorful. It really tasted like good quality vanilla and didn't have a weird aftertaste like I normally get when I eat vanilla ice cream. Ben & Jerry's vanilla ice cream would make the most amazing vanilla milkshake because it has the perfect flavor. Needless to say, I was very happy with my rather plain ice cream and I would definitely get it again.

Have you tried the homemade vanilla by Blue Bell? They have a pretty amazing vanilla!
I agree. All vanilla icecream is not created equally! Ben & Jerry's is the best.
As for my favorite Ben & Jerry's flavor, I think I would have to go with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Mint Chocolate Cookie as a tie.
Vanilla is not plain! I love vanilla ice cream, especially topped with fresh berries. I am usually a bit of an ice cream purist, I love the basic flavors served plain, or with with very little adornment. I appreciate the sweetness, creaminess and simple flavors. You're right though, vanilla ice creams are not all created equal. My fave flavor from Ben & Jerry is Cherry Garcia. However, my fave simple flavors are from Thrifty Ice Cream. Smooth and creamy but not too rich. Some of the premium ice creams are so rich, it's almost like eating a cold scoop of butter.
I used to work for a ben and jerry's scoop shop. Their vanilla frozen yogurt is the very best.

@babybug329@xanga - I think vanilla is plain among all the other Ben & Jerry's flavors..but there is definitely nothing wrong with simple. Less is more!

my fav flavour is vanilla! can't believe i hvn't tried vanilla from b&j's though... i always go for their complicated flavours too. will defo try vanilla sometime~
just don't get the RED VELVET CAKE ONE. it doesn't even taste like red velvet! tastes like strawberry ice cream! :'( i was so sad...
i also LOVE ben & jerry's and have never had a "normal" flavor of theirs. i've never even seen their vanilla ice cream at a store. but if i do, i'll give it a try.
@drk1mmy@xanga - i can't even remember what it tasted like but i remember disliking it. i feel your pain. i love red velvet and ben & jerry's but the combo was disappointing for sure.
I always felt that Ben & Jerry's was meant for "wacky" flavors. But I wouldn't mind trying a simple flavor like vanilla and comparing it to other brands such as Blue Bell (which is my favorite for Vanilla).
@renise01@xanga - Blue Bell makes the most AMAZING ice cream ever, but I think they only sell it in the south. I lived in Texas & I always bought that brand, now that I live in Alaska, nobody even know what that brand is. It SUCKS!
Anywho, now that you are talking about Vanilla ice cream, I'm now craving a coke float. Geeez... I like their ice cream with the banana ice cream, and it has chocolate chunks in it? It's so yummy, I just don't know the name of it.
ben & jerrys is delicious, however its so expensive if I were to get it I'd probably only get one of their unique flavors I couldn't get anywhere else... I just couldn't justify spending that much on vanilla ice cream... :\

people don't appreciate vanilla enough.
Vanilla has been around for years and has been the foundation of many delicious desserts.
Vanilla isn't plain; the culinary world would be one dimensional without this flavour.
I love vanilla, but over here, Ben and Jerry's costs £5 a tub ($7.75) which, is a LOT of money for a tub of plain ice-cream. Plus, I prefer buying our local brands of vanilla - much cheaper and they taste better than the Ben and Jerry's brand in my opinion.
However, I can't resist other Ben and Jerry's flavours! Half-baked and Cherry Garcia are my favourites - we don't really get all the wacky flavours over here :(
Is it awful that I think this would make a good article for The Onion?
I don't buy Ben & Jerry's anymore because I completely disagree with their publicized political stances.
Used to love Phish Food though.
