I scavenged around Google the other day looking for smoothie ideas. I was looking for a berry one in particular, since I discovered some frozen strawberries and blueberries at the bottom of our freezer.
I found one that's not only easy to make but is comprised of only healthy ingredients. I tried it today and it's delicious so I thought I'd share!
You can change up the proportions to your liking, especially for the fruit.
- 1 cup non-fat Dannon vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup 2% milk
- 1 average-sized, moderately ripe banana
- 10-15 raspberries
- 5-10 strawberries (depends on their size)
- 10-15 blueberries
I loved this because not only is it tasty, but it's also filling and is full of nutrients. You name the nutrient and it's probably in there in abundance - calcium, potassium, protein, fiber, vitamin B, vitamin C and tons of antioxidants. It has also been suggested that berries are good to reduce body fat.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
Do you make smoothies at home? What's your favorite kind?

I very much enjoy making smoothies at home. I have this book called "The Little Black Book of Smoothies", and there are a couple of the recipes in there that I dig. There was one that I believe was called "Strawberry Sunrise" that I really liked. It was a great morning pick-me-up with strawberries, orange juice and wheat germ (there was more in it than that, but memory fails me).
I recommend that book because if you're just getting started making smoothies (or even if you've been making them a while), it will show you recipes for seasonal smoothies as well as ones that you can enjoy at any time of the year (or day, for that matter). I haven't made smoothies recently, but I think I'm gonna get back into it. I could use the servings of fruit, and it's a great way to have something sweet that's also good for you.
@LilMizfoodie4891@xanga - Ooh that book sounds like something that would be very useful! Where can I get it? Also, I don't make smoothies very often. I'm in college and live in a dorm for now but maybe next year when I'm in an apartment it'll be really useful. Thanks :)
I got mine from Borders many moons ago... but the book is available on Amazon. I just checked for it today, and it's available for $.54 (minus the shipping, of course... which is usually $3.99).
I don't think it's brand new for that price, but you can get it for as low as that price. I get used books from Amazon all the time, and the prices are very low and the books are usually in great condition.
