I usually don't write about mediocre or average experiences, I like to keep my reviews about places that blow me away. I also don't write that often about bad experiences, but negative reviews are sometimes necessary.
Pop's of Brooklyn opened up on 8th Street and University Place a couple of months ago. As you may or may not know, I LOVE burgers, so I naturally checked this place out. It has a cool vibe to it and I really liked the look from outside.
We were seated in probably the worst spot in the whole place. We sat in the corner behind a wall. This brick wall was basically my view.

They could've at least hung a picture there or something.
Anyway, it also smelled like cat poop. Legitimately. It smelled really bad for some reason and we for somehow sucked it up and dealt with it during our whole meal.
We each ordered a burger and we decided to split some cheese fries.

The burgers weren't bad. As you can see, they look pretty good. It was a good size and it was priced appropriately.

The cheese fries?

Soggy. They were really soggy and when you throw cheese sauce on top, it doesn't help the situation. The could see what they were trying to go for with the fancy cheese sauce, but it just wasn't working out. It wasn't your typical cheese sauce, it was more like a
mornay sauce.
I give the burger a C+, it was average, but the place as a whole is more like a D-. Everything about it was off and I really have no reason to go back. There are so many other and better burger places in New York City.
Have you tried this spot? What did you think?

i don't understand, the place reeked of cat shit and you still ate there?
you don't know what that smell was (could've been cat, rat or racoon shit for all you know), so for hygiene reasons, you should've left the second you walked in, as the kitchen cleanliness couldn't have been brilliant.
no offence, but you can't eat at a restaurant that smells that bad and then complain that the food isn't 5-star standard.
