Perfect Holiday Dessert

The holiday season is filled with potlucks and gatherings and come December, I have my go-to dessert recipe: Bill Nicholson's Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding with Butter Rum Sauce courtesy of Paula Deen.Take my word when I say that this recipe is easy and never fails to impress friends, family and just about everyone! While the recipe calls for Krispy Kreme donuts, it works just as well with any glazed donuts.
I prefer it without the rum sauce, but most people I know seem to really like it.
Ingredients:
- 2 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts
- 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
- 2 (4.5-ounce) cans fruit cocktail (undrained)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 (9-ounce) box raisins
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 or 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Butter Rum Sauce, recipe follows
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cube donuts into a large bowl. Pour other ingredients on top of donuts and let soak for a few minutes. Mix all ingredients together until donuts have soaked up the liquid as much as possible. Bake for about 1 hour until center has jelled. Top with Butter Rum Sauce.
Butter Rum Sauce:
- 1 stick butter
- 1 pound box confectioners' sugar
- Rum, to taste
Melt butter and slowly stir in confectioners' sugar. Add rum and heat until bubbly. Pour over each serving of Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding.

Bread pudding looks and smells good, but I don't like the mushiness of it. This recipe seems over the top even for this normally calorie-laden dish. No surprise, considering the source.
I love bread pudding, and I love making it with unusual breads. I've made it with biscuits from KFC, and day-old bread from Jimmy John's. I've even made a version using Krispy Kremes.
Oh god. Yuck. Not for me!
I'm not a huge fan of bread pudding...especially not something that sounds this sweet. She uses Krispy Kreme donuts--they are so sweet, too much glaze vs. bready part. However, I do make one that I love--toasted french bread covered in a mixture of eggs, milk, a little brown sugar and cinnamon. Really plain and simple, and comforting.
sounds incredibly fattening!
Seems sooooo delish, but I know this would be incredibly fattening. 2 dozen of Krispy Kreme donuts alone is crazy... but yummy xD
Sounds too sweet for me,..but I'd like to try it without half the sugar and no raisons!!
Not sure about the fruit cocktail, but that does look tempting.
yikes! i feel my blood sugar spiking just by reading the recipe. don't get me wrong, i love eating a couple plain glazed krispy kremes every now and again but to put 2 dozen of them, add condensed milk, fruit cocktail and a pound of confectioner's sugar...whoa.
i agree with another poster. too sweet for my taste.
Bread pudding made with actual bread and not doughnuts is way better.
