  • NYC Restaurant Review: Morimoto

One of the restaurants on my restaurant bucket list, Morimoto, can now be crossed off thanks to my boyfriend, Kevin, who took me there for my birthday. I have heard so many things about Morimoto and being a sushi lover, I needed to try it asap. Morimoto is owned by Masaharu Morimoto, Food Network Iron Chef, who also owns Buddakan (which is an amazing restaurant).

Morimoto is located right next to Chelsea Marketon 15th street & 10th avenue and its entrance is covered by thick red curtains. Me and Kevin walked through the blowing curtains (it was so windy that night) and entered into a beautiful, modern restaurant.

As mentioned in my previous restaurant reviews, the first thing I notice is the decor. My eyes went right towards this huge wall that was dimly lit and looked like it was made out of glass bottles. The tables and chairs were chunky and white in color and there were thin glass walls separating tables from each other.

For appetizers, Kevin ordered Beef Curry Bread, which he ended up calling "poo-poo platter" because that's kind of what it looked like. The taste, however, was nothing less than delicious. It was basically beef that was fried in a panko crust..well that's my description of it at least. I ordered Tofu Miso Soup, which came in a massive bowl I probably could've fit myself in and it was super yummy and warm!

For dinner, we both ordered sushi obviously (and it was Kevin's first time!). I ordered a Spicy Tuna roll and an Avocado roll. Kevin ordered a Shrimp Tempura roll and a Spicy Salmon roll. The fish was extremely fresh and it melted in my mouth. Everything was so flavorful and left me completely satisfied.

Now, I just want to mention that if anyone goes to Morimoto...please take a trip to the bathroom. It is honestly an experience. The toilet has its own control panel and it looks like you are in a never-ending dark forest-type place. I just thought I would mention that little fun fact...oh and the toilet seat was heated.

Morimoto was great and I had a nice time with Kevin. I'm so happy he liked his sushi so now we can go on sushi dates! I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Have you ever been to Morimoto?
