My Top 5 Favorite Thanksgiving Foods
Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week?! Where did the time go? Obviously, I'm not complaining considering Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Everyone has their favorite foods they eat on Thanksgiving, so I'm going to share mine with you.
So I guess I should probably just get this out of the way from the beginning...I don't eat Thanksgiving turkey. Phew, ok I feel better now. It's hard for me to explain why I don't like turkey, mostly because no one ever understands how someone could not like a Thanksgiving staple. I just don't think it tastes good. It's not even that I have bad cooks in my family and it comes out too dry or not flavorful, I just really don't like it.
Since I don't eat turkey, I aim for the sides. My mouth is watering just thinking about everything. Unlike my boyfriend, who puts everything on his plate and mixes it all together (yuck), I take a few things at a time so the flavors of each delicious food don't mix...and I also can't have my food touch. Here are my all-time favorite Thanksgiving foods:
Mashed Potatoes: I smother mashers (as we call them in my family) with gravy and add a little salt.
Baked Mac & Cheese: Since this is super filling, I only have a spoonful and since my dad is the one who makes it, I can get eat it any time I want! Everyone else is obsessed with this dish as they really only get to experience it on Thanksgiving.
Stuffing: Forget the boxed stuffing. My aunt makes the most amazing homemade stuffing I've ever had. I have no idea how she makes it, but it's honestly the best. It's super thick and almost glue-like texture with so much flavor. Yummy.
Sweet Potatoes & Marshmallows: Add some salt and its delicious. The salt gives me my favorite sweet and salty combo that my mouth craves.
Green Bean Casserole: I've always loved this dish. My mom used to make it a lot when I was in high school, but now it's a Thanksgiving food for us.

Pretty much everything I eat on Thanksgiving is a carb and I love it! Dressed in my most comfortable sweatpants, I pretty much each my weight in food. Then of course, there are the plentiful amounts of dessert! Since I hate pumpkin, I avoid pumpkin pie at all costs. I normally just go for all random things like cookies, slice of pie here or there and some fruit. I cannot wait for Thanksgiving, and I need to prepare my stomach for all the food I'm going to eat. Nom nom.
What are your favorite Thanksgiving foods? Anything you hate?

I love the sweet potato casserole.
I'm not a fan of turkey either! I thought I was one of the only ones haha.
I like it when there's lots and lots of homemade stuffing, whole sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, corn, brussel sprouts, roasted asparagus...yeah, I pretty much go for just side dishes on Thanksgiving. And then dessert - my family always has at least 4 kinds of pie! I make sure to save enough room to share a slice of each one with my mom =) I love it when someone (or me haha) makes a variation of pumpkin-cheesecake-pie and when there's peach-raspberry pie. You've seriously not lived until you've eaten warm peach-raspberry pie...mmmm
I look forward to roast turkey with gravy, sweet potato casserole and cranberry apple relish for Thanksgiving. Yum. And all the yummy dishes I can make with leftover turkey, like pasta toss, sandwich, turkey enchiladas and turkey veggie soup. I haven't tried making my own stuffing yet, but from the ones I've tried before, I often think the herbs are a bit heavy, or the bread is too mushy--personally do not like the glue like texture. Maybe this year I will try making it.
@AnonymousBlonde@xanga - The peach raspberry pie sounds delicious!
oh my gawd baked mac and cheese **drools**
So you're one of those people who can't have their food touching, that's cool. Your boyfriend reminds me of how I used to eat when I was in my college-weight-lifting-phase (it's a lot faster to clean of your plate when you don't have to pick and chose what to put in your mouth first).
As for my Thanksgiving favorites: mashed potatoes (with a generous amount of gravy), stuffing (I literally dedicate my second plate to stuffing), and lumpia with rice (it's not really Thanksgiving related, it's just a Filipino thing). Those are just a few of my favorites off the top of my head.
absolutely despise sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie.
not a big fan of mac & cheese though O.ooddly i only like the boxed stuffing, the homemade one sickens me.
i love mashed potatoes and the fruit salad i make. I only like dark turkey meat, so i'm normally outta luck when it comes to turkey, because dad eats all the good parts. lol
oooh, i love the chocolate cream pie mom gets :)
just a little tiny one too since i'm the only one refusing to eat pumpkin pie. hah.
In no order because I can't choose lol:
Stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casorole, roles. And in my family we always make this pistachio, pineapple, and marshmallow cool whip salad thing. It's amazing
I really like stuffing, just not when there are onions in it :( Which is everytime so I dont eat it much.. I just like turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, peas, and lots of gravy :D Oh yeah, and pie of course!
@AnonymousBlonde@xanga - Those pies sound sooo good!!!
@endlezzthinking@xanga - Yes, I can't have my food touching haha.
@haley1262@xanga - Ahh how can you hate mac & cheese?!
I love just about everything, including the turkey and pumpkin pie. For the past few years, I've usually eaten out for Thanksgiving, because I save the holiday get-together with my family for Christmas, and it's not worth it trying to cook a big meal for just myself.
Dang, this just made me super hungry! And I forgot my lunch today. =(
There are a lot of things I really don't like on Thanksgiving- green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, and stuffing.
Things I do like- Turkey drumstick (best part), gravy, pea salad, rolls, pumpkin pie. I might get my mom to make her baked mac and cheese this year, and mashed potatoes, that sounds much better!
Oh, and watergate salad, that's awesome as well.
My favorite is the stuffing, my mom's cooked creamy spinach, the rolls, and the pumpkin pie with a huge amount of whipped cream on top. :D
I <3 Thanksgiving!!!!
My mom bought me a special tray to use at large family dinners so I didn't have to worry about my food touching.. I miss her <3
I am like you, I dislike turkey, if I am eating with a friends family who is eating a turkey I'll have one small piece but then I tend to load up on potatoes, stuffing, salad etc.
I'm picky about my stuffing, I don't like the boxed stuff and I don't like dried fruits in it, otherwise it's a win usually.
For my Thanksgivings (there were only four of us) I always made fish or a small ham with the usual sides, I prefer fish or ham to turkey.
I also HATE gravy of ANY type and I put it on NOTHING, ever. My mashers get cheese and butter with gray or rose salt and black pepper.
My mom used to make what I called "Cheese Ball" it was cream cheese, A1 sauce, garlic powder and Worcestershire all mixed together, I'd dip crackers in it, it was an appetizer but I used to (and still do) fill up on it LOL.
ALL OF THE ABOVE AND WHATEVER ANYONE ELSE COMMENTS WITH=YES <3
sweet potatoes!!!!!!!
I have had good turkey and bad turkey. I guess it's the same with most things. I guess the only thing that can't really be done wrong is mac and cheese.
Your thanksgiving sounds amazing. I live in North Carolina so my relatives make all these weird casseroles/ random foods that I don't know what they hell they are but everyone loves them except for me... lol. I like knowing what I'm eating.
My mom makes AMAZING baked mac and cheese, and usually makes turkey tetrazzini with the leftover bits of turkey. She also makes apple crisp that is to die for
I don't celebrate thanksgiving but I do like the food. Actually I just realized I LOVE the food! Mashed potatoes, green beans.... STUFFING! yikes I'm gona turn into a fatty just thinkin about these foods. Wow love pumpkin anything. I am now craving for mashed potatoes thanks
My favorite Thanksgiving food is: sweet potato with marshmallows on top, mac-n- cheese, and mashed potatoes. I've never had a traditional Thanksgiving, since my family loves Chinese food and we usually have a big feast.
Canned Cranberry Sauce and Pie!!!
@HopeWithinReach@xanga - I need to get a tray like that!
@seasidehearts@xanga - It is amazing :) I always eat so much!
@Sammysosa76@xanga - I love homemade cranberry sauce..forgot to add that to my list!
