Southern Series: Apple Butter
I've heard of apple butter before but I never really thought about trying it. We had some leftovers from our tailgate last week, which included fried chicken and biscuits. My roommate was telling me about some apple butter that her parents bought from the mountains and that I should try it on my biscuit. I did and it was delicious!
So for those of you that don't know, apple butter is basically a highly concentrated form of apple sauce. There's not actually any butter in it but it gets its name from the consistency of the spread.
Here's a pretty simple recipe I found if you want to try to make some of your own. Most of the prep you'll have to do is to peel and slice the apples and let the Crock pot do the rest. It's from A Full Measure of Happiness.
Have you had apple butter before? Did you like it?

Oh, yes. My grandmother made it quite regularly. I think my mom has made it a few times, too.
I love apple butter! When I was younger my sandwich of choice was apple butter and cream cheese.
I just bought apple butter at the grocery store. I never did get around to making it... which is disappointing. We have apple country around here and The BEST apple butter ever...
I looooooove homemade apple butter! So yummy! I also recently received a jar of pumpkin butter as a gift and also thought it was delish.

i know A LOT of people who've never heard of apple butter & they live in Alabama with me so it's pretty shocking; i love it, though!

I love it =)
There's an Apple Butter Festival every year in Enon, Ohio.. They make it at the festival, and you can buy it. There's always a huge line for it, so I never get a chance to get any.
@FallingSafely@xanga May have to argue with that comment.. lol
