  • My Denver Honeymoon: Our 1st Day!

Derek and I didn't plan our trip in terms of what we were going to do every day. We are more of the 'spur of the moment' type of people and decided just to go with the flow. After our delicious breakfast at the Queen Anne, we headed off to 16th Street, which is Denver's outdoor mall that is open to pedestrians and closed off to cars. It is a 'touristy' place, but we figured we would get it out of the way right away.

We hit up The Yard House for some beers and light food. This is a chain restaurant of sorts, but we were very impressed that they had over 100 beers on tap. Here is a sample of what they offered.

We ordered the Yard House House Amber, Honey Blonde, the Great Divide Rumbler, the Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown, and the New Belgium 1554.

Plus we got this appetizer of hummus and pita.

I was overall impressed with this place and we had intentions of coming back, that same night actually.

Let's keep in mind that we did a bit of shopping and walking around in between all of this eating! For a mini dessert, we checked out Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.

Derek was dying for a candy apple, but we decided to pass and come back later to get one.

If you didn't know (and I'm sure you didn't), but Derek and I have a stuffed monkey that we bring around with us everywhere! He was even in our wedding. :D They have this huge bear outside of this candy shop, so naturally, Bongo, our monkey wanted to take a picture with him, ha!

We emerged with 2 chocolate and caramel covered oreos. Mmmm, these were as good as they sound.

Derek got a kick out of this sign.

    Free Smells!

That evening, we headed back out to 16th street and hit up Yard House once more for a few tacos and of course, more beer!

Bongo drank a little too much that night...

Do you make a vacation itinerary or do you just decide what to do on the day of?

I actually live in the Denver area, so Welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay. Check out Cheba Hut right off 16th St Mall. Its a sub shop, and you will get the full "Colorado" experience there. Haha. Also, if you are a fan of hibachi, check out Benihanas.

I usually just decide what to do the day of or I just follow around what my parents or family members have in stored. Day one looked fantastic!

Love Yard House, so many beers, yummm.  I love their mixed beers.  And I'm usually not a big beer drinker.
As for vacations, I usually make an outline of what I want to do, I may not follow it exactly, but I always have a little list of things I know I want to do or go to.

Looks like you two and Bongo had a lot of fun on the first day!  Normally on trips, I make a few plans (shows, special exhibits not available at home, other must see/do activities) and the rest, we just play it by ear.  Planning every minute makes a relaxing trip very stressful.  I do love some chain places, but whenever we travel, we try to look for mom and pop places to check out the things that locals like, basically try to experience things that we can't near home.  For example, we when we visited Santa Barbara (we were in town to see George Carlin "in concert"), we visited a place called Rusty's Pizza.  There is no Rusty's Pizza near home--it was awesome pizza.  It turned out to be a popular chain, but most of their stores are concentrated to the Santa Barbara area.

Let's see . . . the "Free Smells" sign was at Jimmy John's, wasn't it?
