Fall Event: Apple Picking
Apple picking has been one of the many activities I look forward to when Autumn approaches. It's been a while since I went so, my boyfriend and our friends decided to go apple picking before the weather gets colder. It's a great outdoor and nature experience.
We decided to go to Wightman's Farms located in Morristown, NJ. According to many farms we've spoken to, a lot of the apples weren't good for this season because of the weather conditions we suffered through during the summer. I was skeptical when I saw the farm because it didn't seem like there were a lot of apples left and we were only allowed to pick from the assigned sections.

A lot of the apples fell onto the ground and it actually made me feel a little sad because if these apples were properly taken care of and picked, it could have made a lot of apple pies or even apple cider.

Our friends decided to take a picture of my boyfriend and I in the apple picking area with our buckets of apples and our apple pickers. The apples were $1.29 per pound, so it wasn't too bad especially since the size of the apples I picked were fairly big.

These were the apples I brought home and I've got Granny, Fuji, and Braeburn apple. They didn't seem to have a wide selection left of apples. I dislike granny apples because it's extremely sour. However, the other apples were quite juicy and delicious.
I had a lot of fun picking apples and the weather was excellent the weekend we went. Next year, I hope to go to another farm where we can pick corn and other vegetables as well.
Have you ever gone apple picking or fruit picking?

Yes and I love it. Cannot wait to go, I have not done this since I was younger and I want my kids to get in to going. :)
Granny Smith apples are my fave! No, but I will hopefully soon.
You can cook with the Granny Smith apples! I'd like to go fruit/veggie picking. It's a shame because there's a strawberry patch nearby but each season passes and I never go.
Apple picking is great. I have two great orchards less than 15 min. from my house. This post really reminded me that I should go before NJ frosts over...
@NCTHope@xanga - Which orchards are near your house?
@goodeatings - Pochuck Valley Farms and Ochs Orchard.
I have never done it! I want to go this year at Linvilla Orchards before the season is over!
