Southern Series: Buttermilk Pie
Traditional Buttermilk Pie has a custard-like consistency and usually has buttermilk, sugar, eggs, flour, and butter as the filling.
It's very simple to make and some claim that it's a favored dessert because it's an alternative to the abundance of fruit pies and is great for when there's a lack of fruit readily available. I haven't had the traditional pie before but I've had a chocolate chess pie which is similar as far as texture goes.
I found a recipe on F for Food that looks absolutely lovely if you're willing to give the buttermilk pie a try!
Have you ever tried Buttermilk Pie before? Did you like it?

Nope, have not tried Buttermilk Pie. After reading a few of your posts from the Southern Series, it seems to me that I am having a serious deficiency of Southern food in my neck of the woods! I could make one...I have some frozen pie crusts in my fridge, that only thing I'd need get is the buttermilk.
I love buttermilk pie.
I know I had it once at Mark's Feed Store, and I keep printing out recipes for buttermilk pie whenever I see them online. I've never gotten around to making any of them, though.
looks kind of like egg tarts
