  • Ladies: You Eat Less Around Men!

Blame social norms and dietary expectations of women, but science shows that women eat less in the presence of men.

The study, published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, studied the eating habits of 127 college students. The results were telling: Women who ate with other women ordered an average of 833 calories while women who ate with men ordered 721 calories.

If you think the same trend can be seen for men (that they eat less in the presence of women), think again! The study found that men ate an average of 952 calories when dining with other men but took in 1,162 calories when eating with women.

One possible explanation is the stereotype that has been ingraned in our minds by society that "proper" women eat less and men have a hearty appetite.

Do you find yourself eating less around men?

    • About Me: I'm a Rutgers University graduate who discovered a passion for writing in college when I found myself enjoying researching for and writing papers instead of working at biology labs. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and watching movies--I am in pursuit of learning to fluently speak French and Italian after developing an interest in these languages from watching foreign films. Apart from foreign films and cooking, my interests include photography, traveling, art history and interior design. twitter.com/sushbaral
