  • Watch Out: Deep-Fried Food is Taking Over!

Nowadays it seems as if you can deep-fry anything. I'm not the biggestfan of deep-fried foods, but there are definitely some that I think are absolutely genius...and there are some that are a little too out there for my taste. Deep-fried foods are a staple at fairs and festivals. Here are some popular deep-fried foods, and some rather wacky ones...

Oreos: Deep-friend Oreos are one of my favorite deep-fried foods. I had one for the first time last year at the Feast of San Gennaro. They are so good. I don't know who thought to take an oreo and deep-fry it, but I love them. It's such an interesting combination but it tastes delicious.

Zucchini: I could eat fried zucchini sticks every day and not get sick of them. Dipped in a side of ranch or honey mustard and I'm set. These are 100x better than mozzarella sticks!

Twinkies: I have never personally tried deep-fried Twinkies, nor do I want to. This combination does not sound at all appetizing to me, but then again I hate Twinkies even when they aren't fried. Aside from me, many people seem to really enjoy these treats.

Coca-Cola: Yeah, you read that right. In Texas, deep-fried Coca-Cola is a popular and unusual treat at fairs. It's Coca-Cola batter that's been deep-fried garnished with a Coca-Cola syrup and whipped cream.

Avocado: In California, avocado has been deep-fried to create avocado bites. Slices of avocado are fried in the same batter as corn dogs. I would love to try these as I love corn dogs and I love avocados.

Mac & Cheese: Fried mac & cheese is amazing! I was a little skeptical the first time I tried it, but I'm glad I did. It is normally served with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. It's crunchy, cheesy and creamy all in one. What could be better?

Kool-Aid: I'm not sure how I feel about all of these drinks turning into deep-fried treats. A man in California invented deep-fried Kool-Aid by making a thick batter with Kool-Aid drink powder and using an ice cream scooper to scoop balls into the fryer.

These are just a few examples of foods that have been made into popular deep-fried treats. More include, spaghetti & meatballs, ice cream, bananas, candy, cheesecake and even beer (I'm not sure how that would taste). The list continues to grow. I wonder if it will ever end, or if just about everything is able to be deep-fried?

What are your favorite deep-fried foods? Anything that's super wacky but so good?
