Food as Household Items
Egg hair conditioner anyone? Or how about some mustard for your cold? I found a great article on Kitchen Daily that lists numerous foods you can use as substitutions for items around the house.
According to the article, if you want smooth hair and don't have conditioner, you can use eggs instead and rubbing mustard on your chest and covering it with a hot towel can help get rid of a stuffy head. I have to confess that I'm not brave enough to try all of these food substitutions but some of them seem pretty useful and are better alternatives than using products that have harmful chemicals in them.
Do you use any foods as household items?

Mummy uses raw egg whites mixed with honey for face mask. I use olive oil to soften my hair.
Lemon, salt, vinegar and baking soda can all be used as cleaning agents, either in a combination of some or just 1 of the items.
Mustard is great on burns. You just put it right on and it keeps the reddness and swelling down.
I heard from somewhere people use watermelon peels as face masks...

Hehehe.

baking soda for toothepaste. apple cider vinegar, veggie or olive oil, coconut millk all for hair and scalp
avocado face mask. olive oil for cuticles and nails
I also heard that mayonaise can make a great hair mask! Of course you'll end up smelling like mayo for a while but hey anything for the sake of beauty at a reasonable price?
I've used eggs for my hair, works pretty well. Beer does too.
Mustard rubs have been used for chest/head colds forever. I will personally spend money on products that smell nice for my hair, etc.
@I_am_naughty@xanga - That's right, dear. I like to use mashed cucumber as mask too.
When I had a stuffed nose, that is so bad that I couldn't breath, I eat a spoonful of mustard or wasabi, and wham, my nose unblocks itself. Hahaha....
Wow, that's weird....my shower looks exactly the same as that one, I have Satin Care Shave Gel, Caress Body Wash, and Suave Professionals Shampoo (but in a different scent). That's strange.
Ground coffee beans to exfoliate the skin.. lol
@amethyst_117@xanga - haha yeah I've actually tried that once..I think it works
Wendy Cheng (Xiaxue) proved the bread and glass thing didn't work on her web series :P
HECK YES. I use apple cider vinegar diluted with water as a hair rinse. It gives it shine and slip (meaning you can comb through it very well. I have black girl hair, so this is a big deal). I've also used olive oil and honey as hot oil treatments for hair... and I've used olive oil as a skin moisturizer. It does beautiful things.
I hope to use more food for home products soon enough since I've wanted ways to keep my hair healthy without using the harmful ingredients in traditional shampoos and conditioners.
@The_Unknown_Blogger@xanga - I've heard of this! When you use them, do you put it in a shower gel or what? I know you can't be using them straight because it would make a HUGE mess!
Lots of interesting uses in that article that I didn't know about
