The Food I Crave When I Least Expect it
A post I read on Huffington Post: "EXPLAINED: Why We Crave The Foods We Crave" sparked my interest and curiosity in the real reason of why do we crave the foods we crave. Food cravings really do happen when I least expect it and I always find myself craving something I normally wouldn't eat on a daily basis because when we crave for food, we often crave for something that's more filling and higher in calories. However, rather than taming your cravings; I personally think that it's alright as long as you don't eat it on a daily basis and that eating it in a smaller portion is okay. I don't restrict myself excessively from what I crave. Below, are the foods and drinks I crave at an unexpected moment:
Coffee: If you've been keeping up or stumbled upon these posts: My Top 5 Favorite Starbucks Drinks and The Ultimate Rivalry: Starbucks vs. Dunkin Donuts, than I think it's pretty apparent that I love coffee. I would think I drink a heck of a lot of coffee and even if it's a latte or an espresso, there's still a whisper of coffee in it.
Every time I feel exhausted and need a boost of energy, I think of "coffee". Every morning when I take the train to school or to work, I smell the rich aroma of coffee. It's so hard to avoid it some time. At one point, a friend of mine helped me kick my bad habit of spending money on coffee and drinking coffee. I gave up coffee for approximately 2-3 months. It's quite an addiction that's hard to give up because the aroma of coffee just captures my attention so instantly and the taste of it is just so rich and it wakes me up.
If I was able to kick coffee out for 2-3 months, I think I can do it again. The reason why I want to cut back from coffee is because I have friend's telling me that coffee stains your teeth but there's a lot of people drinking coffee everyday and they don't seem to care. Any way, the second reason is to really save some money even though I am employed.

Chocolate: I have a bit of a sweet tooth and when I do, I tend to crave almost anything with chocolate. Chocolate isn't necessarily unhealthy for you, unless it's most likely white chocolate. Dark chocolate is actually good for your heart because a small intake of chocolate will keep your heart and cardiovascular system running well. It's been said that white chocolate is the unhealthiest because it lacks flavoniods (a chemical compound with antioxidant properties that is beneficial to blood vessels and such). Chocolate not only tastes good but it's good for you for the most part!

Dumplings: Every so often, I have a craving for pan-fried dumplings because it's simple to make and delicious to eat! I don't eat dumplings a lot, but when I do and the sight of them just makes me salivate. Whenever I finish consuming a plate of pan-fried dumplings I sure feel happy, but this only happens the dumplings are top-notch. The dumplings I crave the most are from Vanessa's Dumplings or my boyfriend's secret, homemade corn dumplings! I never get tired of eating dumplings.

Burger: We all know burgers are pretty, darn fattening. However, once in a while I really don't know why I tend to crave a good and juicy burger, but of course not the ones from a fast food restaurant. I like my burgers medium rare because a medium rare burger always serves me right. I always like a burger topped with mushrooms and cheese preferably.

Noodle Soup: I love noodle soups and crave for it especially when the weather is dreary, when my mood is dreary, when I'm sick, when it's cold, and when I don't want to eat rice. The best noodle soup is my mom's because she takes the time to make healthy and rich chicken or pork stock to save in the freezer for future use.
The feeling of warm soup streaming through my body feels warm and comforting. On top of the noodles my mom likes to throw in dumplings or wontons, fishballs, and some greens so that the noodle soup is balanced out.
These are the major foods that I have a craving for every now and then. I don't seem to have a big craving for snacks, soda, or anything else.
What kind of foods or drinks do you tend to crave at an unexpected moment?

Cake, french fries, sushi, ice cream/milkshakes
The expected things I crave all the time: sushi, french fries, chocolate. The unexpected things? The other day I craved grilled cheese and abp's asiago cheese bagel. And I instantly crave Chipotle whenever someone mentions it or I see it.
Fried chicken, cheese, certain kinds of fruit, peanut butter pie, brussel sprouts! I don't really crave drinks since I stick to plain coffee, plain tea, and water...although I do buy flavored seltzer every once in a while to switch up the routine lol.
Fried chicken, french fries, and whipped strawberry yogurt.
I sometimes have immense salt and corn cravings too.
Oh & cheese. I love cheese. haha.
The drink I normally crave is red bull.
For some reason, I think of cake/cupcakes, cookies or ethnic food like going for a bowl of pho, some sushi or even appetizer items from Mediterranean restaurants (like Russian potato salad, hummus, yogurt with cucumber, real string cheese, lavash bread and eggplant spread),
Chipotle, hot sauce, taco bell, sushi, guac, fried chicken, spaghetti, coffee and burgers!
Pad thai, drunken noodles, egg rolls, cheese fries, coffee... these are the things that I often crave out of the blue. Or... a chicken sandwich. Once, though... I had a craving for chipotle mayonnaise... and had to think of a sandwich that I could make that would go well with it. I think that was the craziest of the cravings.
@AnonymousBlonde@xanga - A brussel sprouts craving? That's pretty awesome
CAKE. Forever. cake.
@LilMizfoodie4891@xanga - I've never really been exposed to brussel sprouts in my culture or family, but I do love eating them outside of my home. Quite delicious!
Starbucks... The bane of my existence. =[
Gyros. 52nd and 6th? Halal Cart in NYC. Mmmmm. But no I must resist.
Definitely chocolate, pudding and strawberries.
Steak (although usually it's around that time of the month)
Pupusas.. YUM
Rice
Potato chips...ice cream...M&Ms..ooh, so many else...
i approve this list!
@deemure@xanga - Thanks!
Um, all the stuff you just listed I now crave LOL. Damn.
I also have coffee cravings when I feel tired. Chocolate cravings hit me hard. A better craving I sometimes get it fruit cravings. I thought of eating a nice piece of juice fruit makes me mouth water, and I love getting an apple. Peanut butter cravings. Oh and potato chip cravings, though I always crave chocolate afterwards.
Oh and now that I don't eat it as often, I get crazy meat cravings too! Especially for pepperoni or bacon.
I have the worst cravings myself, and everyone constantly jokes that I am pregnant (which I clearly am not). I crave filet mignon steak, pickles, sushi, pastries, chocolate, "bubble or boba" tea, frozen yogurt with fruit piled on,crab cheese wonton "rangoons",crepes, macaroni and cheese, a piece of cheese on its own. I have to admit sushi is the one thing I crave far too much. I have a problem!! I enjoyed this post though because I too, have always wondered where these random cravings come from.
I love dumplings!! <3 <3 Especially the steamed ones.
Cake, pizza, sushi, donuts, chinese food, taco bell, chocolate, fried squash, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, and thai food. You know, all the things that will make you gain like a zillion pounds.
@Wake_up_Fashion@xanga - That's a lot of food, but at least you have an open appetite to pretty much anything.
@Xbeautifully_broken_downX@xanga - I do too, literally obsessed with it.
baked mac and cheese, chocolate ice cream/frozen yogurt, potato skins with sour cream <3
