  • The Best Foods of Summer...According to Me

With Labor Day just passing, summer barbecuing is coming to a sad halt. I love summer barbecues, so I hate the fact that it's the last one until next summer. Even though Labor Day weekend sparks the start of school and a new (unfortunately colder) season, it's a time for family and friends to come together and enjoy the taste of sweet summer.

The thing I love most about summer barbecues is the food (obviously). Every person has their go-to foods they grab at a barbecue, whether it be a hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut or a leafy green salad with strawberries, walnuts and poppy-seed dressing. The list of favorites is endless. On that note, here is my list of my favorite summer barbecue foods.

    1. Stacy's Simply Naked Pita Chips with Homemade Spinach Dip
At my summer barbecues, this is a necessity. There is nothing better than a crunchy pita chip combined with the creamy texture of a homemade spinach dip. It's just so yummy and refreshing. You get the taste of the salt from the pita chip complemented by the rich flavor of the spinach dip.

    2. Boar's Head Hot Dogs
My weakness: hot dogs. To me, hot dogs are the definition of a summer barbecue. No barbecue is complete without a hot dog. I specifically like Boar's Head hot dogs because they are made from premium meat...and my parents refuse to buy any other brand. There are tons of ways to garnish a hot dog. My favorite? Potato bun, ketchup, yellow mustard, tons of sauerkraut.

    3. Corn on the Cob
Another summer delicacy is corn on the cob because it is in its best season. I get my corn from a local farm stand to ensure quality. Fresh corn on the cob is super crunchy and just the right amount of sweet. Add some butter and a little salt and you're ready to enjoy a delicious side dish.

    4. Peach Sun Tea
Sun tea is the best in the summer because that's pretty much the only time you can truly make it. My favorite flavor is peach because its cool and refreshing on a hot day. The good thing about sun tea is that you can brew it to your own taste rather than buying something too bitter/sweet from a grocery store. The longer the pitcher is left in the sun, the stronger the tea will be and vice versa. I like to add Splenda to my sun tea for a little extra sweetness.

    5. Strawberry Shortcake
I am not the biggest dessert lover, but I can't resist certain things and strawberry shortcake is one of them. There is something about the combination of moist sponge cake, homemade whipped cream, and fresh strawberries that makes me go weak in the knees. It's the perfect dessert for summer because its so light that it doesn't make it feel like you're about to explode.

What are some of your favorite summer barbecue foods? Anything you just simply can't resist?
