  • Expanding Into California Pizza Kitchen

    California Pizza Kitchen - 201 E. 60th Street New York, NY 10022 - 212.755.7773

I usually don't review chain restaurants, but if it's exceptionally well or if it's my first experience than I think it's worth writing about. My boyfriend has mentioned California Pizza Kitchen(CPK) numerous of times and I've always wanted to try it.  After returning back to the city from a day of lazer tag, miniature golfing, and go-kart we decided to grab dinner at CPK.

We started off with a simple appetizer that's called spinach artichoke dip served with hot with tortilla chips. I've never had anything like this for appetizers before, let alone that existed. Any way, the appetizer wasn't overfilling which is great because I seem to get very full if appetizers are a large portion. The spinach artichoke dip was extremely tasty and had a cheesiness to it.

Hawaiian BBQ Chicken: This was the pizza I decided to get. All of the pizzas are 12 inches. I never had pizza with pineapple before so this was my first time. I wished there was more pineapples on it instead of onions and such. The chicken was cooked to perfection. It was moist and tender and you can just feel the taste of the barbecue sauce slowly oozing into your mouth as you take your first bite.

Pesto Chicken Pizza: My boyfriend decided to get the Pesto Chicken Pizza. I love pesto with anything really especially because there's a whisper of basil in it. I love basil! Any way, this pizza was different from the other two we got because it's thin crust. I love thin crust pizza, but this one was mediocre. There was just a lot of topping incorporated and I feel the pizza would have been fine without maybe the parsley and the sun-dried tomatoes.

Wild Mushroom Pizza: The wild mushroom pizza is not too different from a regular mushroom pizza. The wild mushroom pizza was mediocre as well. I love the portabello mushrooms, but I feel I've had better pizza with mushrooms before. The crust was a little too thick as well.

We all shared the three pizzas. Overall, I felt the pizza's were alright, but I always feel the best pizza are the local pizzeria's in our neighborhoods. There is only restaurant/sports bar I've found excellent pizza at. I'll definitely share that special place at some point. I may consider to return to CPK, but maybe to try some of their other pizzas and see if it'll change my view.

Have you tried California Pizza Kitchen? What is your favorite pizza?
