Top 8 Reasons I Will Never Be A True Locavore
Although I try my hardest to buy my food from local farmers, there are several items I simply cannot live without. In the New York tri-state area, we have everything from apples to mackerel, and I'm lucky enough to be within a mile to a farmer's market at all times but sometimes that just doesn't cut it. Occasionally, I need to make a mental trip via my taste buds to the French countryside or the hills of northern Italy.
1. French Wine - NY wines are very slowly growing on me but I'll never stop drinking Sancerre or red Burgundy
2. Cheese - life is not worth living if I can't splurge on La Tur from Italy or Valdeon from Spain every so often.
3. Lemons - they are in too many recipes to not have them around and hold the key to making any food taste better because of their acidity.
4. Chocolate - specifically, Nutella. I often find myself in need of a heaping spoonful straight out of the jar.
5. Coffee - there is no way I could make it through the day without this.
6. Sea Urchin - No. Explanation. Needed.
7. Pomegranate - the best come from Israel.
8. Olive Oil - Using butter can only get you so far. Olive oil is a necessity.What types of items can you not live without?

I live in Indiana. Unless I suddenly become fond of pork and corn I'm not eating local. But, I do keep a garden so I have many vegetables that are all mine. >:)
No explanation needed? You're eating sea urchin, so I think a big friggin' explanation may be needed.
'Locavore' sounds like it should mean someone who only eats crazy people.
Re: lemon- I recently went on a foraging tour in Prospect Park, Brooklyn and the guide (who has, in the past, completed a year-long Locavore challenge, in which she was limited to food within a 250 mile with the exception of five ingredients) pointed out that wood sorrel, a common invasive plant in the tri-state area, makes for a great lemon substitute.
I must cheese, apples and my Hello Kitty potato chips.
any type of fruit, leafy greens, onion, garlic, ginger, rice, chicken
Coffee, french wine.. my must haves.
Veggies, fruits, rice, noodles... the good stuffs.
Hmm... Coffee & Chocolate.
@Grtt@xanga - No, I believe that would be "Loco-vore". :P
@Lakakalo@xanga - In Spanish, the gender (masculine or feminine) of an adjective depends on the noun involved. Ergo, if the crazy person being eaten was female, locavore works.
@Grtt@xanga - Ah... OK.
lol lol...im scared

sounds cuteEh, I think I could do it.
Locavore? Oh, dear. What would be the local foods of Chicago? I must surely know if I am or not, locavorus.
Definitely chocolate. So sweet and creamy, perfect for stress eating and cleansing your mouth after eating something nasty.
@beefsoupsoul@xanga - where did you learn about the foraging tour? I'd love to do something like that.
@GodlessLiberal@xanga - Yes, I suppose an explanation is needed if you don't know me. I am completely obsessed with sea urchin (I eat some unusual things for an American). If you have never had it, you should try it at least once!
@GinaG@xanga - http://ledameredith.net/wordpress/?page_id=576. This is link for Leda Meredith's blog. Leda Meredith is the woman I mentioned who completed the 250 mile challenge and leads the Prospect Park foraging tours. Her next one is October 22nd.
Okay, I have to try this sea urchin.
Must have chocolates!
