  • When The Moon Hits Your Eye Like A Big Pizza Pie

I love pizza. I don't think there's anything better than biting into a steaming hot, delicious triangle (or square), cheese oozing and crust crisp.

Unfortunately, some pizzerias take this perfect invention and botch it so that it tastes more like cardboard and less like Heaven.

That is why I have my favorite pizzerias and stick to them like glue.

Now, I must admit that I'm a bit of a pizza snob. When I hear someone in Brooklyn ordering Papa John's or Subway pizza (which is a freaking oxymoron, in my opinion), I get very annoyed. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Domino's and Pizza Hut. I don't think it's bad at all. I just don't consider it to be real pizza. It's for when you're coming out of a club at 3AM or are in a state other than New York.

To get even snobbier for a moment, my all-time favorite pizza ever ever ever is actually in Italy – Venice, to be exact. It was thin crust, with halved cherry tomatoes and chunks of who-knows-what kind of cheese thrown all throughout it. I cried when I ate it an ordered it every day. Unfortunately I didn't see it in Central or Southern Italy when I vacationed there in June. Pure devastation.

Anyway, here are three awesome pizzerias in New York, second best to Italia, that I visit on a regular basis.

My very favorite pizzeria is L&B Spumoni Gardens. It's famous in Brooklyn for it's unbelievable Sicilian slices. L&B is known for its pizza being crazy saucy, thick, with cheese underneath. I have yet to see another slice quite like it anywhere else. They also have great round slices but, with those squares there, the round is usually overlooked. Speaking of which, about a month ago my uncle ordered a "regular" slice and a "Sicilian" slice. The pizza guy stared at him like he had just spoken Japanese. "He wants a round and a square," I said, translating. You tend to learn the  lingo if you're there every single day haha.

My second favorite pizzeria is called Di Fara's and it's located on Avenue J in Brooklyn. It made the Top 10 Best Pizza list several times, despite being a complete hole-in-the-wall dumpy little place. When I first walked in, I thought to myself, This can't be what everybody talks about. But my friend assured me that it was. Plus there was an insane line, which made it appear more promising.

When I took a bite of that cheese dripping off of the thin crispy crust, I thought I was going to pass out. I ordered a second slice (which cost five freaking bucks, by the way) immediately. Apparently in July 2009, Di Fara raised its price for a slice of pizza from $4 to $5 becoming the first $5-a-slice pizza place in New York City! Truthfully, I'd pay $10 a slice. Yeah, it's that good.

The third pizzeria I fell in love with is Napoli Pizzeria in Staten Island. They make specialty pies like Chicken Marsala pizza, Chicken Francese pizza, and Buffalo Chicken pizza. It is literally one of the greatest things I have ever eaten.

If you're in the mood for pizza, any of these pizzerias are golden!

Are you a pizza lover? Do you agree with my picks? What are your favorite restaurants?

    • About Me: I have had a love affair with food for as long as I can remember. Some people like to drink, some people like to party -- but nothing makes me happier than sitting down to an awesome dinner in a hip (or traditional) restaurant with my family and friends. And the more you get to know me, the more you'll realize that I would give you the shirt off my back, but never -- ever -- try and steal food from my plate! I can do mean things with a fork!
