BabyCakes: Sweet Somethings
Babycakes NYC - 248 Broome Street New York, NY 10002 - 212.677.5047
BabyCakes NYC is a certified kosher and vegan bakery. There are three locations, one right here in New York City, another one in Los Angeles, CA, and the next one is in Downtown Disney World.
BabyCakes NYC is a small hole-in-the-wall bakery located in the Lower East Side (LES) of New York City. BabyCakes's baked goods are 100% vegan, many of which are also agave-sweetened free products.
The great thing about BabyCakes is that it specializes in wheat-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and soy-free products. They offer many organic an delicious alternatives free from the common allergens.
This is the only bakery I've ever been to, where they'll ask you do you have any allergens? I find this to be unique because most of the bakeries I've been to, don't do that unless you tell them.
I have vistied BabyCakes NYC twice and I've thoroughly enjoyed both visits. I always come here for cupcakes. I've tried a lot of cupcakes, but my most favorite are from Babycakes NYC and Baked By Melissa.

Both of the cupcakes are delicious. BabyCakes NYC is a little expensive, but it won't overly stuff you and I have never felt guilty of eating cupcakes from Babycakes NYC.
BabyCakes also has it's own blog and two books by the name of: BabyCakes: Vegan, (Mostly) Gluten-Free, and (Mostly) Sugar-Free Recipes from New York's Most Talked-About Bakery and BabyCakes Covers the Classics. I do have the first book as a recent Birthday gift and I can't wait until I start baking from it.
BabyCakes is a great bakery to come to for a treat, if you love pastries, and if you have allergies like myself towards certain foods, this is a great place to come.
What are some of your favorite baked goods? Would you try BabyCakes?

My favorite bakery treats would have to be chocolate cake, fruit tarts and croissants. I have visited BabyCakes in Downtown Los Angeles once, but I'm still on the fence on whether or not I'd go back. Pros: Offers safe options of desserts for people with common food allergies. Large variety of treats. Cons: Too expensive. Bad neighborhood. I tried a spelt vanilla cupcake with vanilla icing. The husband had banana chocolate chip loaf. I guess you can say that the quality might have suffered because it was already late in the day, and we carried it around in little containers for about 1 hour before consuming. I thought the cupcake was bland and super dense. I did like the flavor of the icing but not the texture, but maybe the texture would have been better if it weren't out and about in warm weather. I like sweets a little sweeter. The banana chocolate chip loaf fared much better, in my opinion. It was dense as well, but that works for a loaf. It was very tender and moist though. I suppose vegan baked goods take some getting used to, just as it did when my mom switched from white to wheat bread when I was a kid. I do hear great things about the doughnuts, I might try them if I happen to be in the neighborhood.
@babybug329@xanga - Not a lot of my friends know about Babycakes NYC, not sure why they're not willing to give it a try. They're used to Crumbs.
@jessdeng08@xanga - I'm guessing your friends really like Crumbs! I respect people's choices as to what they consider as their fave treat. I am not one to jump on trend wagon, I just happened to be nearby and have heard good things about it. I believe people's tastes are subjective, especially if it's something they've had growing up or at least for a long time. Take into consideration that some people are closed-minded and unwilling to change. Or they simply have strong feelings for certain things. I used to be closed minded as some others. Now my motto is, "Don't knock it 'til you've tried it."
I love cupcakes but never try BabyCakes before. But I want to!
More of a crumbs fan...
@I_am_naughty@xanga - Let me know what you think of it!
I really think all these cupcake posts on xanga are making me think I love cupcakes even though I don't usually like cake or cupcakes.
I keep thinking about making some and then I never do because I'm more into savory foods.I should really bake some soon though since these posts keep showing up and I'm like "Awwdang delicious lookin cupcakes"
@thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga - I'm not a big fan of cake or cupcakes too, unless they're miniature size like Baked by Melissa's. I like baking cookies more than cupcakes.
Mmm.. I will definitely try that one.
Mmm.
Never tried it but those cakes looks absolutely yummy!
