  • Good Eatings in Manhattan

A recent post called "My Favorite Manhattan Eateries"   I read triggered my mind into writing one of my own, but with a different mixture to it.

New York City is well-known for its diverse ethnicity scattered across the five boroughs which is why New York City is known symbolically as a melting pot.

However with so many restaurants, so many cuisines out there; there are just too many to choose from. So with that in mind, I have made a list of some great places for lunch, dinner, or even a snack in Manhattan.

    Vanessa's Dumpling House - 118 Eldridge Street New York, NY 10002 - 212.625.8008

I recently wrote a post about Dumplings: My Uncontrollable Obsession. One of my favorite foods is dumplings and Vanessa's Dumpling House is the place to come for the best dumplings!

This hole-in-the-wall restaurant is inexpensive and the food is excellent quality. They offer a variety of menu items such as the main star: dumplings, sesame pancake sandwiches, bubble tea, smoothies, noodle soups, and a lot more.

Pan Fried Pork & Chives Dumpling

Their dumplings are absolutely delicious. I never ever had pan-fried dumplings that were so good as Vanessa's Dumplings. In addition,  I think $1 for 4 pieces of dumpling is a great deal!

The great thing about Vanessa's Dumpling House is that it's one of those places you don't notice until you look and read between the lines or stumble upon somewhere great.

While living in NYC for most of my life, I've discovered a lot of great restaurants and Vanessa's Dumpling House is definitely one of them!

Banh Mi Saigon - 198 Grand Street New York, NY 10013 - 212.941.1541

Banh Mi Saigon has been one of the top places I wanted to visit this summer and try out  and I am so glad I did. It is a well-known Vietnamese sandwich spot and it is inexpensive as well.

Besides sandwiches, they also serve Vietnamese summer rolls, beverages, and desserts as well.  On a recent visit I decided to get a #5 Banh Mi Xiu Mai which is a Meatball Sandwich.

Banh Mi Xiu Mai 'Meatball Sandwich'

Most vietnamese sandwiches are always assembled with Vietnamese Sweet Relish which consists of carrot and daikon, cilantro, and cucumber. The meat ball had an interesting texture and had a very unique taste to it.

I've always wanted to see what an Asian meat ball tasted like. The meat balls had a little spice to it, but it sure was tasty.

Banh Mi Saigon is a small Vietnamese spot that is inexpensive and quick. It is the perfect spot for a fast lunch or a snack.

    Stand4 - 24 E 12th Street New York, NY 10003 - 212.488.5900

Stand4 was one of the featured restaurants in The Best Thing I Ever Ate in the episode titled as "Sugar Rush". It is one of the best restaurants to come to if you ever find yourself around Union Square or East Village.

They have an array of sandwiches, burgers, shakes, fries, and some of your American favorite food!

    Toasted Marshmallow Shake

The Toasted Marshmallow Shake was the featured item in The Best Thing I Ever Ate in "Sugar Rush". Iron Chef Michael Simon recommended this as the item to try. You can get your shakes in two sizes, regular or large.

However, regular may be a little too small. The toasted marshmallow shake is very sweet and creamy. It almost tastes like a rice krispie treat in a glass! I love the toasted marshmallows on the top, definitely an item worth getting!

Pongsri Thailand Restaurant - 106 Bayard Street New York, NY 10013 - 212.349.3122

I've recently fell in love with Pongsri even though I've only been here twice. So far in the two times that I've been here, they have never failed my expectations and the food is top-notch!

There are approximately three or four Thai restaurants in the entire Chinatown, but I feel Pongsri is the better one. It is very close to the Canal Street station and across the street from Columbus Park.

During my first time at Pongsri, I decided to get Mixed Vegetable Pad Thai. It was the perfect dish that made me full and leave happily after dinner.

It was an enormous dish and I never ever tried a Mixed Vegetable Pad Thai but it was absolutely delicious!

Another great addition to the dish is that there's crispy tofu in the dish as well. This was the best Mixed Vegetable Pad Thai dish ever!

    Baked By Melissa - 529 Broadway New York, NY 10012 - 212.842.0220

Baked By Melissa has four locations within the New York Metropolitan Area. This is one of them and the only one that I've been to. It's practically a hole-in-the-wall and always filled with customers whether you live in New York City or somewhere else.

One of my best friend comes here a lot just because he loves the cupcakes and so does his family. Baked by Melissa is actually on my food list, a list of places I want to try by the end of this year. The experience was delightful.

The prices have went up for the cupcakes. You can either get 3,6,12, 25,50, or 100. The more cupcakes you buy, the cheaper and affordable the price is. Every month there is a mini flavor of the month.

Last month's,  mini-of-the-month was rice krispie treat.

Cookies & Cream, Red Velvet, and Rice Krispie Treat

I think out of all of the flavors that I got, I liked the Red Velvet one the best! I'm looking forward to my next adventure to Baked By Melissa and see what this mini-of-the-month is.

Have you ever eaten from these places? What other places are great around Manhattan?
