  • How to Properly Cut Mangoes

Mangoes have quickly become one of the most popular fruits globally. So, like many others, I hopped on board. I have been a dried mango eater for a long time, but only recently did I really start enjoying the fresh fruit. After buying a few from my local grocery store, I realized I didn't quite know how to cut a mango. I spoke to my mom and she taught me how to do so.

As it turns out, cutting a mango is pretty easy and is actually kind of fun (I know, I know-- I'm so lame). One of the most important things to know about mangoes is that a lot of people are allergic to the skin of the fruit, so it's extremely necessary to cut it away.

Step 1: Find the core of the mango. It's a sort of long, flat pit which is unlike many fruits. It generally goes long ways, meaning that you should hold the fruit up and down.

Step 2: Slice one side off. Cut as close to the core as possible. Then, slice the other side away. Don't throw away the rest of the mango yet-- you can still do some work around the core.

Step 3: Take one side that you've cut and start making incisions. Place the skin side down on your cutting board and cut lines going vertically through the inside. Then, in order to make cubes of mango, cut horizontally against the lines you've already cut.

Step 4: After this, you can push the skin side in towards the cuts and the mango should flip inside-out. Slice your cubes off of the skin and throw the skin away.

    Step 5:
Do the same with the other side.

Step 6: Take the piece that holds the core of the mango and slice the skin off the perimeter. You should be able to cut some more of the fruit away from the core.

    Step 7:
    Eat it!

How do you like you eat your mangoes? Do you cut yours differently?
