  • 5 Strange Eating Habits That Make Food Tastier

I don't usually think much about how I eat as I do about what I eat.

I love feeling every texture and flavor of the food that enters my mouth or imagining different flavors combining into a lovely harmony each time I chew.

But when I take a step back and look at how I eat, there is a certain pattern and process to it.

These specific ways of eating are habitual and natural for me, but when I think about it, they actually work to accentuate the flavor and the texture of the food.

    1. Oreos: Twist open, lick and sandwich!

I'm sure you've heard of this one!

I never, ever eat an Oreo in its original form. There's just something not right about it.

I have to eat the frosting cream inside first, then I eat the rest together like a sandwich without the sweet white frosting in the middle.

Oh, and of course, you need your glass of milk to finish the whole Oreo experience

    2. Sandwich: Crust first

Unlike a lot of my friends, my favorite part of the sandwich is the crust.

But while one would think that I would leave the crust of the bread for last, I actually eat them first

I take the trouble of taking the entire sandwich out of the package to finish off the crust.

Then I eat the sandwich in a circular motion, turning it around for each bite.

With this technique, you can eat your sandwich without spilling a thing, and you can save the juicy middle for last!

    3. Sushi (not Roll): Separating good old friends (rice and sashimi)

Before anything, I'd like to first emphasize that this is not a culturally correct way of eating sushi.

I heard that sushi is traditionally supposed to be eaten with your hands in one bite; so the way I eat sushi can have the danger of being frowned at. (so I try my best to not eat this way; but it's hard to change your habits right?)

First of all, I hate having to stuff an entire sushi in my mouth so I do not eat it in one bite.

One top of that, my jaws are very weak and I have the worst time trying to cut food with my teeth (worse in this case, you have to chew raw fish!).

Thus, I cannot take bites to finish it off. So although I love sushi, I also loathe them for their toughness.

My solution?I separate the sashimi (the fish) and the rice, and eat them separately.

I scrape the wasabi onto the sashimi and dip it in soy sauce, and eat the rice in two bites.

This way, you can enjoy the flavor of the fish without having it mixed with the strong taste of vinegar from the rice while being able to feel the soft grains of rice without having to fuss with the toughness of the fish.

    4. Ice Cream: Milkshake It or Smoothie It

I inherited the inability to eat cold food.

Ever since I was a child my mother and I would buy ice cream together and wait until it melts so we could eat it without wincing at the coldness against our teeth.

Although I have somewhat recovered from this physical hardship, I still enjoy waiting for my ice cream or sherbet to melt into a milkshake or smoothie (a rather condensed one too).

Of course I have received many comments about why I would even bother to eat ice cream if I would rather melt it before consuming it. But there is something very different about milkshake and melted ice cream.

While the melted ice cream or sherbet may resemble a milkshake or smoothie, they still have the taste of what they were originally in their solid state.

Perhaps this is very peculiar or new to you, but consider it another way to enjoy ice cream :)

    5. Fruits: fruit bowl

One of the things I love to do before having my share of fruit for the day is to take the time to cut and prepare a bowl of fruit.

It might seem like a lot of work, but I assure you, it is worth the time

After you take the time to prepare the fruits by cutting them all up and neatly mixing them together, you will find that the fruits is tastier and easier to eat.

So why don't you try these methods for yourself? Do you have other food habits that make your food tastier?

P.S. In case you were wondering, the first picture is from 'Amelie,' one of my favorite French movies. The girl in the picture is Amelie in her childhood, eating raspberries by placing each on her fingers.

I've never tried to eat raspberries that way but next time I eat them, I'll give it a try! (that is, if my fingers manage to fit without squishing the raspberries)
