5 Strange Eating Habits That Make Food Tastier

I don't usually think much about how I eat as I do about what I eat.I love feeling every texture and flavor of the food that enters my mouth or imagining different flavors combining into a lovely harmony each time I chew.
But when I take a step back and look at how I eat, there is a certain pattern and process to it.
These specific ways of eating are habitual and natural for me, but when I think about it, they actually work to accentuate the flavor and the texture of the food.
1. Oreos: Twist open, lick and sandwich!

I'm sure you've heard of this one!
I never, ever eat an Oreo in its original form. There's just something not right about it.
I have to eat the frosting cream inside first, then I eat the rest together like a sandwich without the sweet white frosting in the middle.
Oh, and of course, you need your glass of milk to finish the whole Oreo experience
2. Sandwich: Crust first
Unlike a lot of my friends, my favorite part of the sandwich is the crust.
But while one would think that I would leave the crust of the bread for last, I actually eat them first.
I take the trouble of taking the entire sandwich out of the package to finish off the crust.
Then I eat the sandwich in a circular motion, turning it around for each bite.
With this technique, you can eat your sandwich without spilling a thing, and you can save the juicy middle for last!
3. Sushi (not Roll): Separating good old friends (rice and sashimi)

Before anything, I'd like to first emphasize that this is not a culturally correct way of eating sushi.
I heard that sushi is traditionally supposed to be eaten with your hands in one bite; so the way I eat sushi can have the danger of being frowned at. (so I try my best to not eat this way; but it's hard to change your habits right?)
First of all, I hate having to stuff an entire sushi in my mouth so I do not eat it in one bite.
One top of that, my jaws are very weak and I have the worst time trying to cut food with my teeth (worse in this case, you have to chew raw fish!).
Thus, I cannot take bites to finish it off. So although I love sushi, I also loathe them for their toughness.
My solution?I separate the sashimi (the fish) and the rice, and eat them separately.
I scrape the wasabi onto the sashimi and dip it in soy sauce, and eat the rice in two bites.
This way, you can enjoy the flavor of the fish without having it mixed with the strong taste of vinegar from the rice while being able to feel the soft grains of rice without having to fuss with the toughness of the fish.
4. Ice Cream: Milkshake It or Smoothie It

I inherited the inability to eat cold food.
Ever since I was a child my mother and I would buy ice cream together and wait until it melts so we could eat it without wincing at the coldness against our teeth.
Although I have somewhat recovered from this physical hardship, I still enjoy waiting for my ice cream or sherbet to melt into a milkshake or smoothie (a rather condensed one too).
Of course I have received many comments about why I would even bother to eat ice cream if I would rather melt it before consuming it. But there is something very different about milkshake and melted ice cream.
While the melted ice cream or sherbet may resemble a milkshake or smoothie, they still have the taste of what they were originally in their solid state.
Perhaps this is very peculiar or new to you, but consider it another way to enjoy ice cream :)
5. Fruits: fruit bowl

One of the things I love to do before having my share of fruit for the day is to take the time to cut and prepare a bowl of fruit.
It might seem like a lot of work, but I assure you, it is worth the time.
After you take the time to prepare the fruits by cutting them all up and neatly mixing them together, you will find that the fruits is tastier and easier to eat.
So why don't you try these methods for yourself? Do you have other food habits that make your food tastier?
P.S. In case you were wondering, the first picture is from 'Amelie,' one of my favorite French movies. The girl in the picture is Amelie in her childhood, eating raspberries by placing each on her fingers.
I've never tried to eat raspberries that way but next time I eat them, I'll give it a try! (that is, if my fingers manage to fit without squishing the raspberries)
Thanks for reading!

I do the same with the crust, except my reason behind it is that it's my least favorite part ;p
My mom does the same thing with ice cream! My friends have questioned why I let ice cream melt a little before I eat it, but apparently they don't understand how much easier it is to get it out of the container!
And ooohmygod, bowls of chopped up fruit just makes the fruit seem so much tastier
I would never eat sushi that way in a restaurant. It's not only culturally incorrect, it's incredibly insulting to the chef, just like dipping all your sushi in a trough of soy sauce is. You're indicating that you think the chef did a poor job preparing your meal, and that it doesn't taste good. Sushi is an art that can take many years to master. Just order sashimi with a bowl of rice separately in the first place. I'm sure they'd be happy to do that for you.
i like when people prepare the fruit bowl for me :) lol
I love fruit bowls <3
My fiance heats his ice cream up in the microwave for 30 seconds. He can't stand the frozen hard texture of it straight out of the freezer.
I always eat Oreos in their original form. I think the whole twisting open the Oreo and licking the middle is just a waste of time. Keep it simple! Take the Oreo out of the package, bring to mouth, take bit out of cookie, chew, swallow, repeat. And I don't need milk, either.
Haha I work at a sushi restaurant and a lot of kids do that, also the
kind of sushi you're talking about is called nigiri! :D
those twins at the top are really cute!! what are their names?
Ack, How you eat sushi is very rude... My mom dips every piece of sushi or roll into soy sauce, which is equally as rude, if not more. It really bothers me when people do things like that. Appreciate it for what it is and what it tastes like. The chef put alot of time into learning his technique and its incredibly insulting. Its not for being deconstructed.
As for your other things... Oreos should be eating whole and dipped into milk.... Licking the cream out is pretty gross. Do you know what that stuff is made out of?
If I eat cereal or anything in a bowl, I eat it evenly. Like there has to be a straight line across the bowl.... Hmmmm. I dont know how to explain it very well.
i do the same with the sandwich and oreos. as for sushi, i hated eating it in one bite as well, but i got used to it and it's less messy that way. if i'm eating candy or chocolate with assorted colours (i.e. skittles, smarties), i either finish off one colour first and then move on to the next, or i take turns eating a different colour.
@rusethemuse@xanga - That's Jedward! John and Edward Grimes. They're Irish singers and they're... pretty ridiculous. But cute at the same time.
I love the reference to Amelie! It's one of my personal faves too. For candy I usually eat the flavors that I hate first saving the best for last.
sounds delicious will give that fruit bowl a try!!!
@ohforrealson@xanga - It's good that way... tell him to add a little peanut butter on top and microwave that too, even better!
omg, fruit bowls are SO worth the effort!
also, now I want sushi hahaha
@lttlegel@lovelyish - He isn't a peanut butter fan, sadly
HOWEVER I will totally try that out tonight! lollll thanks!
@ohforrealson@xanga - what is it with men not liking peanut butter?!! mine doesn't like it either, but trust me, it's delicious !!!
#3 order sashimi without rice.
@lttlegel@lovelyish - Your guy too?? That's just plain weird. Peanut butter goes on my toast, gets paired with my apples, I eat it on sandwiches with banana slices... we just have good taste, that's why
@ohforrealson@xanga - It doesn't make sense, he's a chef.. he likes everything except ranch dressing and peanut butter. Peanut butter is delicious and so good for you... & you forgot one of my favs, peanut butter & celery! mmmmmmmmmmm.
I do the same with my oreos, ice cream, and fruit. Especially with my icecream, I only eat it when it's soft. I usually stir, stir, stir my icecream until it's all melty. That's the way I love it even if it has different flavors like neopolitan. Some of my friends think I'm weird when they see me stirring my ice cream vigorously before taking a bite of it haha
Hmm, I never knew dipping sushi in soy sauce is rude. I do it all the time with wasabe mixed in my soy sauce. I also love adding pickled ginger. Why else would they give you those all the time as a side? Is it like when people at restaurants sprinkle lots of salt in their food without tasting it in restaurants? I heard that can be rude. But I can see how taking the sushi completely apart in restaurants can be seen that way.
I love them all!
I eat everything the same way as the OP, minus the sushi since I don't eat any seafood whatsoever, lol. @lttlegel@lovelyish - That sounds so good, I am definitely trying that. :)
I disagree. Oreos taste the best when you take them in one bite.
