  • Bakery Review: Black Hound NYC

Black Hound NYC is a popular bakery here in the East Village. After reading multiple articles and blog entries I could not wait to try this place.  It took me over 10 months, but I finally got around to it. (There are so many options around here!)

Friday night seemed like the perfect night to treat ourselves.  After an early drink at happy hour and some great appetizers, my boyfriend and I decided to indulge in a small cake from Black Hound Bakery.  The Bakery sells a delectable array of cakes, individual pastries, cookies, chocolates, savories and confections. The store resembles a European pastry shop and the delicious confections look almost to good to eat.

I had done my research and right away I spotted their signature cake called the busy bee.

The busy bee is coated in a wonderful bittersweet chocolate ganache, decorated with marzipan and almond petal bees.  This three layer cake includes: two layers of almond butter cake, two layers of bittersweet chocolate mousse and a thin layer of marzipan, nestled under the bittersweet chocolate ganache, covering the entire cake.  If you like the combination of chocolate and almonds you are in luck!

Do you see this delicious sweet heavenly treat?  My mouth is watering as I upload these pictures. The bittersweet ganache, rich chocolate mousse, moist almond cake, and thin layers of marzipan.  The combination is perfection with equal almond to chocolate ratio.  You can not get much better then this as every bite melts in your mouth. This is definitely sweet and VERY rich! The small cake set us back about $8, but it was more than enough for two people to enjoy.  I highly recommend visiting Black Hound NYC and sampling one of their creations!  I think I may try the Chocolate Macaroon flourless cake on my next visit!
